Using PVC as a soap mold

kaymarvel and Candybee have the best ideas. I take a pringles can and cut the bottom out of it. The top becomes the bottom using the lid it comes with. Take a chopping sheet/dough sheet and roll it up. I use packing tape to tape the inside seam so it wont show up in your soaps and so you can...

    Smell in Lavender Soap

I gave one of my buddies a bar of lemon and tea tree and he swears he can smell the lemon afterwards. I have never smelled like my soap afterwards but my wife can smell it. Of course, a womans nose is 4x stronger than a mans. CaraBou is right, enjoy it while you have it.

Why oh why are my soaps doing this???

Never give up. You will always have your failures. That is what makes this so fun. The questions I always ask myself are does it still clean and does it smell okay. If you are not selling it but thosetwo questions can be answered with yes, throw it in a box marked survival bars and use them...

In need of good dog soap recipes and tips on coloring

My wife's cousin has a dog rescue business and she wants me to make up some dog soap. I have found some recipes on the net but, I am interested in finding out what you folks have. She also wants me to color it but I told her I would also have to research the affects of oxide pigments on fur...

    another soapbox rant

You should have taken the bar to them and asked them if they were aware that their "handmade" bar has a common degreaser found in auto parts stores. One of my buddies has a job where all he does is scout for fake and knock off clothing. A division of the Indiana State Police. If anybody is...

    Hi everyone!

Welcome Hlee. Love the cheese box mold. My first molds were made out of 2x4's screwed together. I have only been soaping since July. There is a wealth of knowledge on here so keep a notepad handy.

    I ate my fragrance oil....

Eating a spoonful of cinnamon is called the cinnamon challenge. Look it up on youtube. Hilarious videos. The stupid stuff people come up with these days. Oh well, it keeps me gainfully employed.

    Hunting Success and Soap

I assumed that this would have been the appropriate place because General Chat is for off topic things. Didn't mean to offend anybody. I can see how non-hunters might be offended. My feelings aren't hurt, still love the forum. Anyway, judymoody I did make anise soap also, I just haven't used...

    Hunting Success and Soap

A few weeks ago I decided to make some dirt scented soap. I found out that WSP carries Dirt FO. I was skeptical but, the reviews won me over so I ordered it. It smelled exactly like the scented wafers I buy at the store. October 1st was the bow opener here in Indiana so I decided to try it...

How much powder colorant to add to recipe

My newbie thinking was that if it turned out in small amounts why wouldn't it turn out in large amounts or am I wrong? What about this recipe? 10oz. Sunflower 12oz. Olive 29oz. Coconut 22oz. Palm Oleic Acid is medium. I have seen you talking about this but, cannot remember the importance...

How much powder colorant to add to recipe

Thanks for the great advice Hazel. That recipe is actually tripled. The original is 8 fl oz Sunflower oil 8 fl oz Olive oil 7 oz Coconut oil and makes a very hard bar. I am still a newb so I figured why not just triple it. I ran it through BB's soap calc to get the lye and water amounts...

How much powder colorant to add to recipe

In making the law enforcement soap, what is the minimum amount of powder I need on hand? I am looking for a little bit darker blue than the picture. Also, will ultramarine fade? Should I add more to make it darker than I prefer? This will be my first time using powder so any help is...

    Orange Clove Pomander Soap

Hey Genny I think it gelled. There was a crust on the top but, you could tilt the mold and the soap would move. This is the first soap I have made in this 1x4 mold. I made my other molds out of 2x4's I had laying around. I tend to find a way to get it done around here. Maythorn-Keep on...

$200 per oz. of Jasmine??? Sweet mary!!!! That is one pricey bar of soap. Kind of like coffee oil from WSP. Glad it turned out though.
