Using Plastic bucket to make soap

I have a 1 gallon plastic bucket from Wholesale Supplies Plus that previously had palm oil in it. It's just the right size for mixing my oil/lye mixture and bringing it to trace. It's sides are nice a high and it's not too big for my small batches (>2lbs). It seems like the perfect match but...

White swirls in my soap- - just checking

I made a batch of soap yesterday and just *love* the color I got. I used Ultra Blue from Snowdrift farms. At first when mixing the color in it was very ugly and hardly noticeable - so I added nearly 1.5 tsp. to a 28oz batch. But, the blue is lovely now. But, it has some white swirling to...

    using plumeria by itself

I'm back after a nearly year-long hiatus and busy making several batches. I love the smell of plumeria, but I'm worried it won't hold up alone. Is that true.

    soap was crumbly

I've been out of town, but right before I left I made a small batch of soap in preparation for making my own laundry detergent. I asked about it here: http://www.soapmakingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4770&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 I let it cure in the mold for 22 hours and when I...

Using my soap to make laundry detergent

I visited someone here's soaping blog that talked about this and now I can't find it again!! (yes, I checked "history" but it seems my computer deleted out my cookies). Anyway, I've been doing research on making my own laundry detergent. The first places I found recommended laundry...

    Soap that smells stinky

Okay, This past weekend I made the mistake of letting one of my kids pick out the fragrance and color (trying to do a little mommy-bonding time). It looks like that old teal colored tile that people used in the 70's to decorate their bathrooms with. She choose a "tea Rose" type smell and its...

Used my SB and it traced in less than 5 min!

Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I was making a small batch. I tried to go between SB and using a whisk. Last time I used the SB on a different recipe it also traced very quickly and now I'm wondering if its doing it too fast. Any thoughts?

I'm back with a question about calc. total weight of soap

I'm back from visiting family and travel and ready to start a new batch or two. I was able to buy some new molds and they say they hold 64oz. When making a new recipe do I calculate the oil, lye and water for a total amount, or just the oil & water? Thanks!

My 2nd batch and its a swirly

Okay, I got a load of stuff delivered and made a batch from an old recipe I had. The only thing was I forgot to put the EO in until I'd already started the swirl :x So that didn't incorporate very well... if I were to turn the soaps around you could see little splotches of discoloration from...

It was in the deep discount pile. It is not marked "Sweet". Can I still use it to make soap?

My first CP batch in 3 years - it didn't go so well

I'm bummed. I finally got all the ingredients and made my first batch of soap in 3 years. I could not get it to trace. I don't have a stick blender and tried in vain to hand stir. The only other thing I think I did wrong was I accidentally added 1oz (or less) too much palm oil. I tried to...

    New to the board

hello, I'm new to this board and so happy to have found you. I've been making cold-pressed soap for years but, because its so much fun when I get started, I have loads of soap when I'm done. Consequently, its been about 3 years since I've made soap. I don't tend to give it away because my...
