    Getting Soap to Gel Properly

Decide that you want to use honey in all your soaps. lol Or sugar. It works for me in Wisconsin. In winter here it is hard to get the soap to set properly even without some "anitfreeze". Coffee seems to heat mine up too.

    After 9yrs of soaping...

First soap I made twenty years ago was plain lard soap! It is as good today as it was then. Only thing is I don't have to wait six months to use it and I have soap calc now. Internet has just radically changed the whole soaping scene!

    Attention fresh goat's milk soapers-help!

That's why I add the goat's milk at trace. I use half water. The benefits of the milk are there with half. And less worry about scorching.

    Calendula Oil

I've used it in hard bar lotion too. Exquisite! I wouldn't use it in my soap.

    soap for cystic acne

I beg to differ that soap doesn't make much difference. It really does in the case of the teenagers face and neck and shoulders. Even if the acne is hormonal, there can be sensitivites as well. Also if there are open lesions, a plain gentle soap will help keep the skin clean and help prevent...

    soap for cystic acne

I make a plain lard bar at 6% no color no fragrance, for the kids. They call it the "Pie Crust Soap" and it has helped many of them. Try this first because many acnes are caused by sensitivities. Less is More.

If you could only make three

I don't use that many different recipes. I adapt my basic tallow recipe to use in several others. But I use the salt bar recipe from Cathy McGinnis soaping 101.

    sugar in soap

Honey is a humectant, drawing moisture to itself. Sugar boosts lather. Molasses has antioxidants. I just finished the three sugar soap from Soaping 101. Can't say much except that it's been raining for days and my soap is having a hard time of it drying. They will discolor the soap so you plan...

    Newby questions about tallow

I'm like Yooper. I love my tallow. For each lb. of tallow, I add two oz coconut oil and half oz. castor oil. So I just plug it into soap calc. then. Sometimes I add some EVOO. Maybe an oz. or two per lb of tallow. Lately have been adding an oz. of honey for two lb. batch. Seems kind of strange...

    Super Fat to ???

I soap at 7-8 percent. I'm going to my cousins in July and she has never been able to shower more than once per week due to her severe dry skin. Do I dare go higher on my percentage or should I just add some honey??

What do you rest your unmolded soap on

Walmart bag, paper towel, garbage bag. They all work. Use what you have.

    Natural Colours for lavender purple?

Bramble Berry has a nice sample pack of neons. There is a Great Purple in there.

    Using Tallow

I order tallow from soaper's choice. You can't beat it for hard, white long lasting bars. Last time I rendered it took two days and made a big slippery mess in my kitchen and on the floor. I was doing 15lb of it. The cubes from Soapers Choice last a long time. I kept mine outside this winter...

    Going without soap.

Soap is directly responsible for the halt in the spread of disease. Your first best defense against illness is good handwashing. Soap saved mankind.

    Two Lilacs

You can't beat BB Lilac. I soaped it and it was the most popular all winter because it smells just like spring lilacs after a rain. My SIL would like it stronger but I use the recommended amount. Why interfere with the bubbles and waste the fo by adding more? The yellow you see in the soap was...

    Spring/summer "herby" fragrance

A few weeks ago I used Sweetcakes Lavender and Herb in HP for a requested lavender order. I had a few bars left(of course) for myself and daughter. It is very herby and very lavender. I actually messed up because it listed the flash point at 128 which is yikes for HP. But actually it stuck. I...
