    The competition

It's sad but she likely doesn't even know that she's wrong. Many people jump in to business way before they know what they are talking about. If you sell your products make sure you know your stuff and can educate your customers about it. I found writing out a Frequently Asked Questions...

Help! can I sub anything for palm oil?

Palm oil has a SAP value of .142 and Lard has a SAP of .141 If you've already mixed the lye, you can easily just swap some of the palm for lard without having to worry about too much or too little lye. The numbers are so close you don't have to run it through a lye calculator...though these...

Sometimes Lye isn't the biggest danger

Yikes!! Maybe heat the oven slightly...turn it off and then add the soap mold. The residual heat would be enough to warm your mold.

    Free Banner Adspace

I've just finished adding a page to my site Soap Making Essentials that is going to showcase handmade soap shops. This is to be a free service with only a banner or link exchange on your website or blog as the requirement. Last month (October) Soap Making Essentials saw over 46,000 page...

    Tussah Silk

Your faster trace will definately be due to the pomace oil rather than the virgin olive. Pomace oil contains a lot of unsaponifiables that will excelerate the trace considerably. It can also contain chemicals since that is often what is used to 'squeeze' the last bit of oil out of the olives.

Anyone try the room temperature method?

I used to melt all my hard oils first then add my liquid oils. I'd bring the lye solution and the oils to the same temp....etc, etc. Now I just measure out the hard oils and put them in the pot. I measure out the liquid oils and put them aside. I make up the lye solution and as soon as the...

Had an interesting experience at Lush today...

Lol.....way too funny! I'll have to remember that one! As for Lush stores.....I've tried to look around at their products but almost run from the store screaming each time. I find the combined scents so overwhelming (actually stinky) that my eyes and nose start to itch and my lungs start to...

    Considering Castile

Lol.....my thought's exactly! Sorry to anyone who loves castile but for some reason it gives me the willies. I like to have 20% coconut and 20% palm in mine (so it's not a castile) to give it a little more omph...but I don't have any problems with coconut drying my skin. And I really, really...

    Wrapping soap

No it doesn't....but when a customer refuses to take the label....what do you do? You still need to keep the customer happy and try to abide by the laws as best you can. Many customers...more than I would have ever thought....really like minimal or no packaging....saving paper, etc. Forcing...

    Finding MY professional soaping identity

Every one of the markets I go to is filled with retired folks peddling their wares. They all enjoy what they do and it gives them some pin money. They have their financial planning for the 'bills'. Crafting is for the fun and for the 'extras' in most cases. They (nor I) worry much about an...

    Wrapping soap

Yes....I wanted people who refuse labels to at least have something to view that gives them an idea of what is in the soap. It reads like this: "Ingredients*: Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Water/Aqua, Hydrogenated Palm Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Butyrospermum Parkii...
