    When to dilute soap paste

I just made my first batch of liquid soap and was wondering (after talking to a few people)- when do you dilute your liquid soap paste after it has been cooked? Can you do it immediately/the next day or should you allow the paste to "cure" for a few weeks as you would with cold process soap bars?

    Moldy soap?

Thanks for the input! Really appreciate it. My regular bars which are wrapped in shrink bands appear to be just fine (storage conditions are the same) but somehow, the soaps that are completely sealed have this issue. I've decided to chuck them into tea bags before placing them in cotton...

    What preservative to use?

I need help on preservatives again! Am thinking of making a lotion using floral water, botanical/fruit extracts, some oils and a lotion emulsifier (Sodium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Trideceth-10). Initially, I thought of using Optiphen or Tinosan but a friend...

    Moldy soap?

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that...put some pin size holes in the shrink wrap, etc. Either that AND leave a note somewhere to remind customers to remove the plastic wrapping.

    Moldy soap?

I actually am going to give her a complimentary bar to replace this one on top of that one which she purchased and on top of the discount. I make a few different types of soap and it so happened with this particular bar, I don't have any in stock and won't be making any up for a while so she...

    Moldy soap?

This was a customer. She wasn't upset or anything. Just didn't know what to make of it. I suspect it could be as what you said...advised her to remove the bits by either digging it out (it was surfacial according to her) or washing it as use. Also gave her a discount off her next order and...

    Moldy soap?

Do you think this is mold? The soap is made using cocoa powder, 90% dark chocolate and 50% goat's milk. Soap formula includes cocoa butter, olive oil, castor oil and apricot kernel oil. After curing for 4 weeks, I wrapped these up in stretch wrap and sent it to the owner. This was in November...

    Paraben-free preservative in sugar/salt scrubs

Thanks ladies! I'm getting preservatives for my scrubs coz I don't want them growing nasties after a couple of uses...and I'm looking at paraben-free items. Optiphen confuses me because some sites says it's okay for anhydrous products but some say it's not. Hm. Also, how do I use it in scrubs?

    Paraben-free preservative in sugar/salt scrubs

Anyone have any ideas what is available? I read that Optiphen is out of the question as it's water soluble... I'm getting my supplies from France so I might run into some problems because they have things like EPP Cosgard Naticide Benzoate complex & Sorbate Leucidal ...all for items with an...

Special essential oil for lip balms

A friend pointed me to a quote from the Internet that is in Chinese...translated, it reads: "Essential oils are divided into four grades. The first stage is pure essential oils; second grade food grade; tertiary perfume grade; fourth grade pure water dew or flowers. Fourth-grade essential...

Special essential oil for lip balms

Is there such a thing? It's my first time hearing of it and was hoping for some info... The store that sells it says that it's 100% undiluted, no phthalate esters, no nitromusks and made from natural isolates. It's supposed to be specially designed for lips so you only need 1 drop. The...

Aloe vera powder in oil infusions

Not too sure if this is the right subforum but I recently bought some aloe vera powder and was wondering if you can infuse it in oils since I saw a number of sites selling aloe oil that has been made with aloe vera powder + oil. Any thoughts or experiences to share?

Storing essential oils in the tropics

Thanks for sharing! The main reason they are in the fridge is because outside, our room temp is about 86 F. It can go higher on a really hot day. But otherwise, it is this temp on average throughout the year. Would that still be okay?

Storing essential oils in the tropics

I have been trying to explain that I do this sort of storage coz that's what I was told by virtually everyone living in four-season countries and my friend brought up one point - what about the suppliers or manufacturers of these oils? Where and how do they store it? I told her that they have...

Storing essential oils in the tropics

I live in Malaysia where the ambient temperature can go up to 30°C/86°F or higher during the day and around 28°C/82°F at night. I'd like to know how to properly store my essential oils. I currently store them in a mini bar fridge - temperature setting is so that it's cool but not cold - but...
