    Soap cutter DIY from hell

This is kind of primitive but it works well for me on my home made log mold. The large thin cleaver helps to keep the cut straight along the squared end of the mold. Cutting the bars is one of my favorite parts of soap making.

    I will, thank you.

    Oops

Good question, I have no idea, could just be my mind playing tricks on me, or maybe I made an assumption based on how it looked in the package. I have some cochineal around here some place that I've used to dye my homespun yarn. I should give it a try.

    Oops

I poured my 7th batch today, figured I would try coloring the soap this time. As I was picking up a few things the other day I saw Annato Seed in the spice section, I remembered that I saw it listed as a red soap dye and figured what the heck and bought it. I followed the directions infusing it...

    I finished this today

That's cool, I'm working towards building acoustic palor guitars. I've built electric too, my first was an electric bass and is #1, I use it when I'm working.

    I finished this today

As promised, here are a couple of pictures of the cigar box clock I made this weekend, a really simple project but perfect for the fireplace mantle in my 1886 Florida Cracker farm house "o)

    Home made soap is cool

Of course, I agree with you, I am sorry I express myself so poorly. I wasn't addressing the subject of creating soap recipes rather that following basic fundamental recipes and achieving success using the tools and skills acquired in the kitchen are skills learned and practiced in the kitchen...

    I finished this today

Sure it plays, it's a 12" scale soprano ukulele, this is the third one I've made. The first was made on a large round gourd then I used goat skin for the top, like a banjo, I even inlaid mother of pearl gourd flowers on it. The second one has a spruce sound board and the body is a Chinese bottle...

    I finished this today

I had to put it aside for few months to finish up a project that the time frame was shorted on. I also made up a cigar box clock, I'll get a picture of it tomorrow.

    Home made soap is cool

Try to understand the process, have everything ready before you start, take the time to follow the instructions and measure carefully. My biggest problem was molding the bars, then un molding them, now I'm using a plastic sided freezer paper, it works well, I may eventually pour a silicon liner...

    Home made soap is cool

Thanks Eric, like they say it ain't rocket surgery "o) one of the things I have learned in many years of making stuff is to work with the best materials and tools you can afford with the best information you can get, even more important than that is to jump right in, yes, you gotta have a...

    Home made soap is cool

My first attempt at making soap sat patiently for 6 weeks on a shelf in the room I keep my guitars in. It smelled great every time I went in to swap out an instrument. I've been accused of having extreme patience, it was tempting to try the results but I knew that waiting would be a greater...

Yeah, I can imagine, it's crazy to clean up with something that smells like dirt, I like it "o)

    Happy :)

Cool, I'm on my 5th batch, my first batch will be cured at 6 weeks tomorrow, I've been very patient waiting to give it a try, my experience with home made stuff is that it's better than store bought, tomorrow I'll see if it's true with soap making "o)

Thanks Tasha, some good ideas there. I'm thinking that the fresh cut grass would be pretty cool, if not for this project maybe the next. I'm not concerned about masking the human scent for this project. Usually when I am hunting I don' t use any scented soap at all and after I have washed I...

I like the moldering Everglades Muck, but this project is more along the lines of a novelty. I use an unscented soap when I'm hunting. The farm we just bought I can tag deer and turkey sitting on the back porch "o)

A little help, please. Bushcrafter’s River Bar.

Yeah, that's pretty much the purpose, most of us are hunters but not when we are out practicing wood craft skills. Mostly along the lines of plant identification, friction fires, and minimalist gear and survival techniques. You know just basic woods bumming "o) Thanks for that info, I'll...
