just read the post. wow, totally new method for me. I have always just used a modified version of Failor's method. I'm going to try this next time. Thanks for sharing. And yes, what a beast of a post. Is it worth reading through the 40 something tabs?
I have made liquid soap dozens of times and I am familiar with the method for making clear soap at a negative to slight positive superfat number then using castor from there. As I said in my initial posting, this was an experiment. With that said, I use borax not to neutralize but to thicken...
This isn't the same that happens when you are trying to dissolve the paste into the water is it? The soap I poured into those bottles was perfectly uniform with no layering until it sat for a day. Still more water?
Hi guys. I decided to change up a recipe for liquid soap and experiment with superfatting at 15% with the following:
60% hemp seed
25% coconut
15% Castor
This was probably a mistake, although an interesting experience. Take a look at the pics for more details, but it seems like the soap kept...
Beet Powder (20g to 260g soap) = caramel brown (yellowish tones) , Cranberry powder (15g to 260g soap) = starts out puke green but turns to a darker brown type color, Spirulina (20g to 260g soap) = very dark dark green (almost black).
I'm going to run this one again but use half the amount...
I actually managed an off white color after unmolding a batch with cocoa butter, coconut, castor and hemp.
But the colorants turned the bar blackish green, light brown, puke green and off white. It looks interesting, but not stunning. Oh well.
I was hoping if someone could tell me how to achieve an off white type base color (something that would be ideal to color with) from any combination of unrefined oils? Because I am using unrefined, the colors bleed through... usually my soap turns yellow/orange before using colorants and the...
I saw IrishLass's post regarding her method of LS making. I wonder if her method (thus my question about the canning jar exploding from internal pressure) would apply when using water instead of glycerin?

I'm just a nut like that and HAVE to understand everything. Outside of that I've been writing a very complex excel workbook for a couple of years now that deals with every aspect of a soap business all the way down to auto calculation of taxes. I need the equation to program it in to the...
I forgot to ask... I saw that one user dilutes her soap in a canning jar with the lid on. Wouldn't the steam from the water loss cause the jar to explode under pressure?
btw, I've scanned through previous posts for about an hour and did numerous google searches but can't seem to find the math behind all of this. What I HAVE seen is a lot of people don't agree with Failor's calculations. I just want to know what she was thinking.
I am trying to figure out the math behind the dilution rates. I do not understand why in Catherine Failor's book she indicates that
15% actual soap = 3:1 ratio water/paste
In my mind this is diluted to 25%.
Also, when I cook my liquid soap, I like to start with a little more water than...
*Lots of hugs to DeeAnna*
AMAZING information. DeeAnna, please write a book so I can buy it. At the least DeeAnna, you should consider writing a very detailed blog about everything you just said. I was completely misreading those numbers this whole time and now I understand why I wasn't...
I have a general idea of what the numbers are on the soap calc website but I was wondering if someone could explain the interaction a bit more to me. For example, I have a formula with the following numbers:
Soap Bar Quality Range Your Recipe
Hardness 29 - 54 52
Cleansing...
I'm definitely toeing the line with the baking soda but I think it's still within acceptable levels for most people. Is it possible for that deodorant formula to develop certain strains of bacteria?
