What Herbs to Plant in the Garden for Soap Making

Baby will be here this Thursday! And I agree with what greensoap said too. I usually make my own plant starts from cuttings (from my own plants or other peoples'). Comfrey seed is not often readily available, but there are suppliers out there. Good luck and happy gardening and...

What Herbs to Plant in the Garden for Soap Making

I'd buy plants of the thymes and lavender, maybe the chamomile too depending on which variety you're wanting to grow. The others are a cinch to start from seed. That's just me though:)

What Herbs to Plant in the Garden for Soap Making

I know, I can't wait til I can get my hands in the soil! I've been starting lots of plants in the greenhouse already, but it isn't quite the same. Thought of another herb to grow for soaping, one I really want to try - comfrey. It seems a lot of people have had good success infusing the...

Right on! I know they're not herbs, but garden veggies and fruits can be used too.

LOL:) Men might start wanting to take bites out of you!

    "man" smells

Atlas Cedarwood and Patchouli with a titch of balsam EOs make a very sexy "man" blend to me. I'm just starting to experiment with FOs and have heard several suggestions for Drakkar FOs too. Apparently, it drives some women wild though, so maybe use with caution for your husband

    Favorite Luxury Soap and why...

Avocado oil, shea and cocoa butter, and coconut milk are in the bars that I love best. Hemp oil is next in line.

    Tomato Paste for color?

The soap I made with tomato paste faded considerably over a year's time. I think I used about 1tbsp ppo, maybe a bit less. It was a nice peachy orange while it lasted though.

What Herbs to Plant in the Garden for Soap Making

Another vote for roses (for the hips esp) and calendulas. I'd love to try growing loofha gourds, but we have major squash bug issues here. Lavender for the buds sounds good too. Don't forget about growing your own cucumbers and carrots and pumpkins to puree and/or juice for soap too!

Anise Cedarwood Cinnamon Leaf & A Bit of Everything

I think your soaps look cool even with the acceleration. I'd blame the acceleration on the cinnamon leaf EO - in my experience, spice oils REALLY speed things up. Clove EO, for example, has caused my soap to seize in the past.

herbal infusions for both colors and scents - recent results

Oh well! I've heard that some people have better luck with sencha green tea staying green in soap. I'll probably experiment again with the matcha anyway.

    Mountainous tops - PICS ADDED

I was always envious of some soaper's textured tops, and am still trying to get mine to look as pretty. Not all batches require the texture, but some just beg to be made creamier looking on top like frosting on my mom's cakes! Doing the pour and wait thing has worked for me, especially when I...

    Rose Clay in Salt Soap?

I've done something like this! I used all finely ground Himalayan Pink Salt and tried to swirl with the rose clay. My swirl kind of failed and the rose clay made some of the bars a bit darker than I would have liked though, more of a dusty rose or mauve color. Maybe you'd have better luck with...

    Coconut Milk

Coconut Milk is one of my standard ingredients now. It is wonderful for lather and in my unscented coconut milk bar it smells a bit sweet. I always make my lye solution with water at 50-60% of the liquids and add the room temp or slightly warmed coconut milk as the remainder of the liquids...

Definitely! I'd love to be able to get a green with that powder. I do love experimenting too.

    Sea Clay & Avocado

Those look great! I saw Amanda's guest post and recipe, too. Hers inspired me to formulate my own and I love it - I used way more sea clay and it is a wonderful facial bar.

I did a couple experiments with matcha green tea powder. One I added the powder after trace and it turned brown really fast. The other I used matcha infused olive oil and the soap is a very dull green. I did use a floral wax in that one and I think it affected the coloring.
