How are you offsetting the cost of Olive Oil?

I like HO Canola. I always hated OO in soap so I would have been okay, but I retired from selling during COVID. I just noticed the price increase in OO, but also Lard, Palm, and Tallow 50# blocks have doubled or close to doubled in price from what I used to pay.

    Is this mold?

I made and sold shave soap, but always added in a preservative just to be on the safe side. This I did discuss with a microbiologist and he agreed it was not a bad idea since shave shop in a jar or cup has water added. He also used my shave soap and taught soapmaking so we had quite a few...

    Latest Update on Cheryl

Thank you everyone. This is crazy, but on the other hand, it is really a miracle she is still alive. She just got home again and her RBC came up and so did her platelets. They came up from 14k to 25k so that is once again promising. LOL, Alison, her husband has turned into such a jerk I have...

    Latest Update on Cheryl

My daughter is 44 and the Social Worker tries, but we just keep hitting block walls because they have insurance. New update, she had surgery again yesterday. Now she is fighting a Staph infection and her Sjorjens is out of control which is destroying the sinus patches so they had to be repaired...

    Frightening Canning Procedures

I always water bathed any pickles done in brine although I always PC my salsa just to be on the safe side. I also would pressure my lemon curd because of the butter amount to make lemon curd.

    Soft Butter in Bar Soaps

If you do your research there is or used to be 100% avocado butter available. Otherwise just buy avocado oil for use in soap or lotions. It is pricey but nice. I am sorry I do not remember who the supplier was I purchased my 100% avocado butter from but it was firm like Shea. It was not from...

    Frightening Canning Procedures

I am sure some of you can food here as I have done for many years. This is just a bit of a rant about a FB Group called Rebel Canning. I do not know how it started showing up on my FB but it is a very frightening FB Group in my opinion. I think I probably clicked on a link from a Sourdough page...

Can anyone explain the "Superfat % should be 1/2 of the Cleansing number" rule?

Sounds like a silly guideline to me. Unless I am making salt bars my average superfat is 2-3% My cleansing runs from 13-17% and my bars are very far from cleansing. I was low superfatting long before it was considered acceptable, by many and was told so by a few members who are no longer in the...

    Latest Update on Cheryl

Thank you everyone. I keep praying, but it is looking promising. Of course, she still has months of recuperating but that is to be expected.

    Latest Update on Cheryl

Since I have continuously bothered everyone with my concerns over my daughter I am happy to say is home again and hopefully to stay now. She did have another short round in the hospital a week or so ago with another surgery but it appears they have finally eradicated the Sepsis. I am still very...

    Trouble with Camden Grey

I always had wonderful customer service from Camden Grey, and could not imagine you were having trouble with them.

It's a Dog eat Dog world out there!

There is very little compassion today. Just like with my daughter and dealing with hospitals, they would just send her home to die without upfront money and oodles of it. No one cares today everything is money-driven.

Is this shea butter still good?

I totally agree with Alioop, make a high shea soap with low superfat. I have used Shea older than that. If it smells fine it smells okay it will be okay to use. There would be no reason to go through trying to wash it unless it smells rancid.

    Seizing and tracing too soon

Unlike lsg I always soap at 1.1oz ppo because my customers like strong fragrances. I did not worry about my oil temps unless I had to melt down some of my hard oils and they felt hotter than usual because I tended to soap at room temp with cloudy oils. I soaped with either a high % of...

    How much activated charcoal

It is better to add in some black mica if you want pure black because you almost cannot add in enough AC to acquire pure black. I am not saying it is not possible but black mica will really up the black and less possibly of very dark grey suds. For years I used AC exclusively until I discovered...

    More Prayers Needed Asap

We got the results of the MRI and another surgery on Monday is necessary. She has a severe sinus infection, but fortunately, they don't see signs of an active Sepsis infection going on. However, her doctor does not guarantee that will not change if he does not clean out the area again since...

    More Prayers Needed Asap

Thank you, looking now. We have asked and tried. The problem seems to be that this facility is owned by the mine as is the insurance and we just seem to not be able to get any help. the mine has merged with a Canadian Company and they just seem to play by different rules. Also, there are no...

    More Prayers Needed Asap

In need of many prayers again. Yes, I posted that my daughter was released and went home, and I was guardedly excited. As of today, we are very worried again. She has a bacterial sinus infection and her doctor is not sure Sepsis has not reared its hateful ugly head again, so she is having an MRI...

palm oil making soap very gritty

I soaped with palm in at least half my soaps never or would have very seldom heated that high, and never had gritty soap. My vegan recipe soaps were high palm-based. Even my high shea soaps never became grainy and I even melted my shea until it just melted. I will note I tended to soap while my...
