Planning to do a mostly coconut soap. I would do a salt bar, but I don't want to add salt at trace, because it's grainy and it doesn't look/feel smooth enough. Which brings me to the question: how much salt can I work with in the lye water ?

What other oils are good for a salt bar, in addition to coconut, and what do they contribute to the soap ? I have seen some suggestions for a little shea / castor, what do you people think ?

What is the difference between the two categories. Are there any reasons for not cooking with the oils we use for soaps/creams? I know that often cosmetics oils are refined to clean up the color and smell. But refined oils are also used for cooking. How can I tell the difference ?
