    Orris Root Powder

The info from where I get orris root is touse approximately 1 teaspoon for 5 pounds of soap oils! Also, you can add it to lye water, although I've always added it at trace. The plot thickens... ! :D

    raw milk vs pasturised

I'm not sure, but in my opinion there is no difference unless you want to sour the milk before using to increase sodium lactate content. You can't sour pasteurized milk - it just gets rank. Soapmakerman sours his whole, unpasteurized goats milk for this reason. You don't need to sour...

    Wine soap

I'd love to know, as well. My husband makes wine, so we have a ton of it around. The colour doesn't survive the CP process, but apparently wine soap has nice lather. Has anybody tried it yet?

YAY!!! 1st batch under my belt!! take a look!!

Great first batch! Ain't it exciting! I bet you never thought you'd be so turned on by soap. lmao. There are so many things to explore - fragrance, colour, swirls, oils, shapes, molds....it'll never get old! The best part, sometimes, is how your friends and family fall in love...

Lost my lifeline, I'm desperate! (forum question)

I wish I had read this thread before joining over there. There are a handful of members with well over 10K and even 20K posts that are incredibly rude. They seem to take pride in offending new members and watching them 'flounce' out of their forum. I love it here - people are friendly...

80/20 coconut oil and 80/20 tallow soap

Ok, first time using image shack, but here goes: Left is the tallow soap, swirled with pink clay and a touch of maddar root. It traced very fast and had to be scooped into the mold. Right is the coconut oil soap, using unrefined avocado oil for the base colour and green glacial clay...

80/20 coconut oil and 80/20 tallow soap

The tallow soap I made has no coconut oil in it at all. It's 80% tallow, and 10/10 shea butter/avo. Do you find the 100% coconut oil soap drying?

80/20 coconut oil and 80/20 tallow soap

I've been experimenting with batches of 80% coconut oil. My first batch was 80% coconut oil, 10% shea butter and 10% unrefined avocado oil. It's about 4 days old now (I RTOP'd it) and the colour the unrefined AVO gave it is wonderful. It's a pale, natural green. I swirled a wee portion...

frustrated... bf says soap making is too dangerous

I confess that, If my husband decided he wanted to buy a motorcyle, I would say "Over my dead body!". Maybe MaRanda's boyfriend is just very concerned she will get hurt. Education is the solution for that. But there's a difference. At least in my mind: It's a lot less likely that...

frustrated... bf says soap making is too dangerous

my bold Good posts, guys. It's the attitude where one partner can 'forbid the other from doing something they want to do that's the bigger issue here than whether or not you make soap.... Try education him - lye is simply a strong base. It's just that simple. What you're adding...

    bubbly-vs-creamy in soapcalc

I second that - let us know how it turns out. I really like the high lather count for both bubbly and creamy! With those numbers, I'd expect you'll get a stable lather that is both creamy and bubbly.

    Milk Carton

You don't have to rub anything on it. All you do is peel the carton off the soap when the soap's hard enough. :P

The Good News is...Its under warranty

Oh, that's too bad. It's so hard to sleep when it's hot. The timing is definitely a Murphy's Law thing.

I live in Canada, and the first time Paul sent it, it got stuck in customs and then returned to him! When he found out it was being returned, he went to work to make me another cutter and sent it speed mail - no extra charge!! Thanks so much, Paul, I appreciate everything! Not many - not...

lol I thought I had a lot when I got 2 bags that size. Mine will most likely last a lot longer than your 5 bags. Happy soaping!
