    Liquid soap

What were your oils, if I may ask? Elly at Elly's Everyday Soap Making mentioned that there are oils that are somewhat challenging to blend to trace, and that they tend to separate if you don't blend enough. I've worked with coconut, olive, and rice bran in only about a pound or less per batch...

    Making homemade laundry detergent powder

I'm currently looking for material about laundry detergents and planning to formulate one that we can use. The cost for laundry detergent liquids, and even the powders have gone up so much now that I'd prefer to make my own, and also to at least have some control over what goes in my product...

Resources to learn how to make candles

I'm new to making candles too. I started with making wax melts by blending some waxes that I have on hand. I don't have access to pre-blended waxes like they do in the US so I just experiment with wax combinations and ratios. The soap makers that I follow also made wax melts and scented candles...

    Wax melts

I just started experimenting with wax blends this month. I've been blending soy wax, coconut wax, beeswax, paraffin, and carnauba wax. I have candelilla wax, and rice bran wax but haven't tried them in a wax blend yet. My first blend was coconut wax, soy wax, and beeswax at 60%, 30%, and 10%...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I made a lotion that's meant to be a face cream, again based on Marie Rayma's Summer Face Cream which she posted on her youtube channel and her partner blog site. I didn't have her emulsifier/stabilizer Ritamulse SCG, emollient isoamyl laurate, and gelling agent Sepimax Zen and so I made...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

Made a 100g lotion based on Marie Rayma's moisturizing repair cream formulation. Subbed the emulsifier for glycerol monostearate (GMS) because I have it, also subbed the shea for mango butter, the dimethicone for fractionated coconut oil, and her sepimax for regular xanthan gum. It turned out...

    Zany's MIY Carrot Tissue Oil

I wonder if the effect will be the same as a solid facial butter? I'm planning to use mango butter, cetearyl alcohol, Zany's carrot oil formula, vitamin e mixed tocopherols, and some starch maybe? And then maybe the bearberry extract to address sunspots and hyperpigmentation...? Or will this...

    Infusing orange peels?

Thanks for sharing this Zany! I will try your carrot tissue oil infusion too and maybe it can help diminish the melasma that developed on my cheeks. I had it checked by a dermatologist and I had to shy away from the treatments she suggested. I thought maybe I'd try natural remedies first...

    Infusing orange peels?

I did infuse dried orange peels in sunflower oil and in olive oil. I also infused lime peels, lemon peels, hibiscus petals, calendula, coffee, and others. I got my Frontier Co-op organic orange peels (Citrus sinensis) from iHerb and intended it for tea, until I thought maybe I could infuse some...

    Blister-healing ingredients?

I read somewhere that rosehip oil is good for scars. Some tv shopping ads marketed it as such too, but I haven't observed anything significant on me maybe because I wasn't really after those properties and can't tell if it's true. An essential oil, helichrysum is said to have healing properties...

Usage Rates for Soap Base Ingredients?

Thanks so much!!! I'll try this one and follow the recommendations for the solvents and skip the alcohol. I wonder if the volume for propylene glycol can be reduced? It'll be my first time to use a 1:1 water to lye ratio with glycerin and wonder if it'll help reduce sweating... Also, today I...

Usage Rates for Soap Base Ingredients?

I have been following a few recipes for making glycerin soaps over at youtube. For example, there's Bonnie's of Good Earth Spa, and then there's Soap and Clay, and others. I have no problem with the percentages for the oils. We have soapcalc and soapmaking friend for that :) What I'm intrigued...

First time making soap. Can this be saved?

I tried rebatching a seized batch last month. Followed a Soap Guild tutorial on youtube. You can try it if you want... It's How to Rebatch with Beth Byrne. Hope it'll help.

    Bubbly, Bumpy Sides

Thank you! I put any excess batter in those little silicone molds used for making chocolates? And then just use them to top some soaps. I'm learning piping, which seems to be the new fad in making soap tops for party favors.

    Bubbly, Bumpy Sides

Thank you! The oils did get reabsorbed but I wasn't expecting the gelled color to stay. It was milky white in the beginning and when it when it gelled, it stayed gelled with a honey-like color. It's still pretty, but I wish it had stayed milky white. I was hesitant about adding TD and thought...

    Bubbly, Bumpy Sides

Maybe I should expect bubbles and some silicone rash when I unmold tomorrow. I didn't force gel this batch. It just reached 110-113F on its own, and I brought it into a cooler room with an AC unit since I don't have a fridge for soap. I have never seen gel phase this pronounced until today...

I failed my soap twice in 2 days

you can identify the culprit in that batch by eliminating ingredients that you suspect might be causing that misbehavior. you can start with your fragrance oil.
