Some pictures of what I have been busy with

Here are some pictures of my newest soaps. Had some fun experimenting with soap dough and a few techniques. Sorry about the labels, but too lazy to take a second set of pictures. Confetti with Diagonal pour, layered turmeric with swirled top, lavender with attempted spoon swirl, peppermint with...

    Confetti soap

I have read all the confetti soap threads and felt really inspired. After grating all my old bats, some of them where really crumbly and turned into a powder. I sifted this fine powder out. Any idea what would happen if I incorporate them in fresh batter. Would it make litle specks or disappear?

What natural, easy to find additives have you experimented with?

I have been having a lot of fun adding different things to my soaps and was wondering who else has done some experimenting? I know some of the additions are common to the old soapers, but it is interesting to see the way the same recipe reacts and how the soap ends up? Did some egg and pine tar...

    Tallow salt bars

All the info I have found thus far on salt bars as well as soleseife uses coconut oil. Has anybody ever tried using only tallow?

    Gloves

Has anyone tried using "Gloves in a bottle" instead of latex gloves when working with lye? I read a lot of reviews about people using it when painting and using solvents, but was wondering if it would protect against lye? The normal gloves really makes my hands sweat terribly and results in a rash.

    Size and weight of soap

I know this has been discussed in a few places, but I still need some answers, can somebody please help? What would be the average size of a bar of soap? If soap loses 10% weight during curing - dies it imply that it also loses 10% of its lenght, width and thickness?

    Newbie

Hi, I am new to soapmaking but had to find a way to "recycle" the tallow from our local butchery. Now it seems as if I have become addicted! ;) Really enjoying the interesting discussions I am finding here. Spent this weekend processing what seemed like a ton of tallow into Christmas presents...
