    Help Understanding 'Flash Points'

Thanks, but I am not making soap, I am trying to make a balm and I am not concerned about the fragrance so much as the actual beneficial properties of the essential oils. Whilst fragrance is nice I am using the essential oils because of their useful properties to add value to the balm not just...

    Help Understanding 'Flash Points'

Hi, So I understand the legal definition. But what I am wondering is more about how to use when making balms. So I struggle to get my balms down low enough to add essentials oils without them starting to harden and then I have to heat them up again anyway so its just a vicious cycle and to make...

Balm Mixture Setting Too Much Before It's Cool Enough To Add Vitamin E

Actually just heard back from the company who makes the rosemary extract I'm looking at abd they have said its heat stable so I can use that instead of vitamin e since I can add it in without having to cool the mixture. So I'll swap to that. Still waiting to hear from them about the Manuka oil...

Balm Mixture Setting Too Much Before It's Cool Enough To Add Vitamin E

Yeah I might jot bother to be honest. I have been trying to do that but I cannot get it to work, it's setting far too quick I cannot get it down to 45 and then it's setting on the side of the jug when I pour it so it's just too frustrating and totally unenjoyable now.

Thanks for the info sheet, I do believe the extract I am looking at is already in sunflower oil.

    Rosemary Extract vs Vitamin E

I need it for a product I plan on selling and if it works I would be making it up in bigger batches since one batch only does 3 tins. Can I add it to my balm at a higher temperature than vitamin e? That is important, I don't want to have to cool down the liquid balm as much as working with...

    Rosemary Extract vs Vitamin E

Ok so doing some research on alternatives to Vitamin E because I cannot be fuffed with this stuff due to its heat intolerance, its making balms just so unenjoyable I want to quit all together. So I came across Rosemary Extract and want to know what people think, is it a good alternative? What is...

Balm Mixture Setting Too Much Before It's Cool Enough To Add Vitamin E

Hi, So I am making a balm and every time I try to cool it enough to add the vitamin E, about 40c, so much of it just sets so its not pourable any more. The recipe says to let it cool to 40c before adding the vitamin e but it should still be pourable but its not working. Any tips?

Colour Combinations For Tinted Lip Balm

Hi, So I am starting to make lip balms, first batch has gone well and I tried making a tinted one. However the colour came out very light so I did more research and found I need to use a oxide alongside the mica. However I am trying to understand what colour oxides to use for what product. I see...

    Help With Mica Colour

Thank, I have read that guide before and it doesn't really answer what is happening. I don't mind the colours blending more together, in fact that sort of wispy swirl was what I wanted. It is that weeping effect on the sides that is the problem, where it looks like the mica is just settling and...

    Help With Mica Colour

Hi, Can someone help me out with my soap (grey batch), need to know why I keep getting this effect happening in my soap. I have been trying to do 'swirls' or more dual colour effects, the top looks ok, the bottoms are variable, some are solid one colour, or a mix. But the sides are the worst...

Help Understanding How Additives Are Calculated

So, Maybe a bit obvious but I have gotten myself confused over how to calculate additives in a recipe due to the way these explanations are written. This is mostly about melt and pour but also about some other bases this company does. Melt and pour base SFIC the company says "A soap base can...

What % Of Carrier Oils Is Actually Beneficial?

Hi, thank for the response. But I understand why they are made the way they are and why you can't add very much more. What I'm asking is what I was asking was is only 3% of an added oil even effective. I was trying trying to work out weather adding a tiny percent of oil was beneficial or just a...

    Help With A Recipe

Oh, awesome yeah I will check it put because a ready made would be great because the initial cost of making it myself is extreme. Edit: just realized I don't think i can get what you linked, costs too much to get stuff from out of NZ.

    Help With A Recipe

Is that accurate for soap, I know that's that works for water. But not all liquids weight 1g per 1ml, wax only weight approx .83g per 1ml for example. Hence why I've been uncertain about weight vs volume with soaps.

    Help With A Recipe

Cheers, I looked at bases but they are all the wrong ph for what I'm trying to do. I forgot yo say, but it's for a baby safe wash so I need something quite specific and this seems to be pretty perfect and just uses a few drops of lactic acid to lower the ph to baby range. Plus aloe of bases are...

    Help With A Recipe

Thanks, pure nature is actually where I get most of my stuff. Yeah I read that about the Crothix, however that doesn't actually help me exactly, because like I said this recipe doesn't get heated so I don't know how exactly to melt the Crothix and add it when my mixture stays room temp.

    Help With A Recipe
