They actually loved the cheap soap

Yes. I totally get that. And also what @TheGecko said. But unless we have a PhD in chemistry, and have studied soap exclusively, we can't really know. I can say that I do not have a PhD in chemistry (I wish I did, but my career path unfortunately didn't take me in that direction, and if it did...

They actually loved the cheap soap

If you can cook with, for instance, avocado oil, and it doesn't destroy the nutrients, then I would think soap would still include those nutrients, considering it doesn't get as got as in cooking and doesn't even come close to reaching the smoke point. Not to say that's an advertising claim or...

What soapy thing have you done today?

12 should be good. I use 20% in mine but it can get tricky. My best advice; Don't stick blend, hand blend. And if it feels like it's starting to stiffen up, even a little, it's time to pour if you don't want to glop it in the mold. It doesn't need a lot, just enough to get everything mixed. I...

    CP & Syndet Shampoo Bars

Just wondering if you're still around. I was thinking about trying something like this. How did yours turn out?

    Shipping costs!!!

Aww! That's sweet of you. And yeah I live on the gulf coast. It takes hours to get anywhere in Texas from here. I'm so excited to try the neons. I was hoping to make a pride soap, but my red morphed to an ugly yellow-brown in a different soap. Thankfully it was a tumeric lemongrass so I can...

Scratch that!!! I just realized that they offer free shipping for over $30. I'm in!! :)

    Shipping costs!!!

Yeah. It's crazy! You can't blame the post office completely. I just tried to order some micas from nurture soap. Eight 5 gram bags cost $11.35. and the shipping came to $16.45. You can ship that for a few bucks easy. Or priority mail for about $8. I really want to buy some good quality micas...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

I was thinking about trying some of these. I have SLSA. (I bought it to make bubble bars). I don't have any SCI. But I'm always trying for the best ingredients. Can you tell me why you prefer the SCI?Is it just because it's more mild?

    Liquid Soap

Yes, I use distilled water for everything. I mentioned above that I used Mrs. Soap & Clay's dual lye soap paste recipe from her video. It only turns white when I add hot water to it. I don't have it in front of me right now but when I do, I'll try to remember to come back and post.

    Liquid Soap

I've watched that video. And it's a good one. But it's also a potassium hydroxide recipe. Mine is dual lye, and like I said, I'm trying to figure out why I got different results from the same batch. For instance, cloudy is one thing, but pure white is a whole other thing.

    Liquid Soap

I understand that you weren't scolding. But saying I didn't understand the basics, and not suggesting any reasons these things may have happened indicated to me that you weren't interested in offering any suggestions. Yes, I'm definitely new at LS. But I've done a lot of looking into how to do...

    Liquid Soap

As I understand it is surface scratches that make the glass weaker. If someone is using a stick blender with the glass, It could scratch it for sure. Chemists use glass beakers for these type of substances. Not something I really want to argue about. But wouldn't using a crock pot be a similar...

    Liquid Soap

I really like her too. I know some people don't agree with everything she says but I take the knowledge and leave opinions behind. We all do things differently. She is really fun to watch and I love her humor. Her husband is in the glass industry, so has addressed the "etching" claims, and said...

    What are these spots from?

The only additives were mica and fragrance. 🤔

    What are these spots from?

Thanks! well it's great you're learning quickly. :) 15 years and I still didn't know. Lol. I guess I never cared much till I started selling my soaps. I will definitely try that too.

Always need lotion after my soap!

My bad. I was thinking of conditioning. And after reading yours and the others replies, I see that I was wrong about that as well. I'm definitely not new to soap making, but there will always be a lot to learn. I always just assumed conditioning was referring to moisturizing. I've been getting...

    What are these spots from?

I finally got back to the post. Been really busy the last several days. Thank you all for responding. From reading all of your comments, I'm going to guess that it is actually stearic spots or air bubbles. I don't always soap at the same temps and sometimes I get it and sometimes I don't. So I...

    What are these spots from?

So I’ve been making soap for a really long time and have always been happy with my recipe, for use it works great, but I’m also always trying to make it look better. I pretty much always have these spots. But sometimes worse than others. I’m pretty sure it’s not soda ash. I do get that on top...

Always need lotion after my soap!

For those of you saying you can't get your soap to leave you feeling conditioned and moisturizing because it's a cleanser, if that were the case why is moisturizing and conditioning even in the properties chart. I would definitely think that the higher the amount of glycerine in soap would help...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I've seen it done. Just maybe add the micas little by little too the dough till you get the color you want. You can also paint finished soap and Embeds using a little mica with a little alcohol.
