    Herbs For Hair - Sharing

I had a lot of hair loss during menopause and did some research. I do two things with my hair each week. One is an oil mask and the other is a rinse. The oil mask is basically just Castor Oil as a carrier with 3% Moroccan Rosemary, applied to my hair and left on as long as I can, I work from...

    Herbs For Hair - Sharing

You should check out Fo Ti root. It is a Chinese herb that has been found to switch on the growth phase of the hair follicles when used topically. Great for those of us with thinning post-menopausal hair.

    Having fun with Hot Process!

I've not heard of putting vinegar into soap. Sounds very intriguing!! I have a couple of questions. Does the acid counteract the base? Would you need to add extra lye to counteract the acid? What is the purpose of adding vinegar?

    Is this mould?

I find if steaming doesn't remove the soda ash and it is in tricky corner parts of the soap then I use a paint brush and some alcohol to "brush" it off. Works like a charm. Those are really stunning soaps!! The recipients will love them 😍 My daughter is currently at an Indian wedding in...

How do you cut your soap?

Yep, my husband generously offered to pay for a multi-cutter for me. I found them on Etsy, none in Australia so I ended up buying one from a guy in Croatia who makes them. In my frenzied excitement I didn't realise that I had selected the 2cm one instead of the 2.5cm one. It cost close to $400...

    Hello from France !

Hi and welcome to the group. Are you able to tell us what you have 220L of? Is it olive oil or a different oil?

    Acceleration pre adding EO

I soap at room temperature. The only time I found soda ash to be a problem is when I increased the water in my recipe. I have gone back down to a 2:1 ration for water/NaOH and like magic, no more soda ash.

    Jelly Soap

So once you make it, the consistency is pretty soft. I think that if you were to lay a long embed down into the middle of a CP soap, the weight of the soap above might squash it flat. They would look great on top of a soap, however I couldn't get the different coloured layers of the jelly soap...

    Jelly Soap

Hi AliOop, I have uploaded some photos of the product in the jars ready for gifting. This particular pot in the photo is the one I am keeping for myself as it is the dregs from the bottom of the mixing bowl where I end up with bits that are not whipped. It has been in the fridge for a week or...

    Jelly Soap

I recently made a batch of exfoliating (walnut shells) scrub using this method and I must say the result is absolutely fabulous!!! I used walnut shells instead of sugar because this was requested by my daughters. I did 700g shreds, 700g H2O, 65% of the shred weight in glycerin and 20% of the...

Add a layer after a day?

Wow, I am really sorry if I came across as argumentative. I was totally not trying to be. I was just trying to clarify measurement units with those unfamiliar with the metric system. I spent my life working in science and it is 40 years of measurement protocol and nomenclature hammered into me...

Add a layer after a day?

There is a very big difference between using millimetres vs centimetres when you start multiplying for volume. If you use millimetres then you will end up with an answer in milligrams and would need to add an extra step in there to get the final answer down to grams (or cc's) - you would need to...

Add a layer after a day?

I am thinking you should be using centimetres not millimetres. 1g of water = 1cm3 which is 1ml of water. You should then multiply that by around 0.95 to get 95% which is around the difference between the weight of water to the weight of the soap batch (Oil and additives make the soap slightly...

New on the block - First timer today

Hi Linda, Another flamin' Aussie here. I'm from the Blue Mountains in NSW. Welcome to the forum, you will have so much support here and it is such a lovely place to be. Everyone is really friendly here. I too have an old Bamix that I use in the kitchen. I was thinking of retiring it to the...

    Hombre Pour - tick

So I was finally able to achieve an hombre pour. I think using lemon EO with a touch of vetiver EO probably helped to keep the batter runny enough. I also think I am getting faster at everything as I practice more, which also helps.

    What happened here???

Ok, that helps me a lot. I always soap quite cool (room temp) and I tend to use a 2:1 ratio which is around a 33% concentration. Do you think that this method is ok? I might add that until recently I thought all FOs were naughty until I learned what emulsion is. :nodding:

    What happened here???

Hey AliOop, I'm a bit confused by this. If the lye concentration was 31% and you increase the lye concentration to 33%, isn't that removing water? Does more water cause seizing and by reducing the water amount it helps prevent it from seizing? I always thought it was the other way around? I...
