    Beer soap .

Hi Lauren, typically if I add beer it does affect the color of the soap, depending on the kind of beer I'm using. The darker the beer, the more it affects the color.

    Beer soap .

Quick Question Mike - are you an experienced soaper or is this your first soap? Beer soap can be a bit tricky if you add beer as your liquid, because of the sugars in the beer. I used a fruit beer the first time I made beer soap and didn't realize there are special precautions to take, so it...

Cranky about people asking for legal advice

Based on this conversation, I would LOVE to be at a party with all of you! We soapers sure are an educated lot, or at least an interesting bunch. I knew there was a reason I enjoy this forum!

    Soft Butter in Bar Soaps

I recently posted about avocado butter after I learned that most avocado butters are mostly hydrogenated soy oil with added avocado oil of about 3%, which disappointed me. I couldn't find a true avocado butter. Someone on the forum sent a link for a pure avocado butter but it is very...

    Soy Based Butters

Thanks not_ally. It is interesting to know that there are actually some butters that appear to be pure avocado, and I agree with you that this would be better utilized for something other than soap. I noticed that the description on one of the pictures of the product says "Unrefined cold...

    Soy Based Butters

Hi not_ally, I have yet to find an avocado butter that is not mixed with something else, such as hydrogenated vegetable oil (Brambleberry), Soy Butter (New Directions), Soybean lipids and beeswax (Making Cosmetics), etc. If you're aware of any, please let me know where I can find it. Thanks...

    Soy Based Butters

I searched but couldn't find any info on this. In reading about all the butters out there that can be used to make cold process soap, I find that many of the specialized butters, like Avocado, Aloe, Calendula, etc., are mostly Soy Butter (up to 97%). Avocado butter, for example, appears to...

    I'm kind of freaking out

I mix my lye outside and if you're afraid of chemicals definitely buy and wear a very good respirator.

    need reassurance

I have one of those pizza delivery insulated bags because I used to make food for a group and had to transport it and keep it warm, so now I use it to gel the soap. I cover the soap with a cardboard lid, put it in the insulated pizza bag, then cover that with towels and let it sit a couple of...

Mixing CP soap by shaking bottles

If it's soap that's in the bottle, why not just add water, shake it up, and then leave it to use when you wash your hands. If you shake it up frequently, the soap will be put to good use and the bottle will get cleaned. Granted, it may take a little time. Then, if you decide to use this method...

    The Great "Lotion" Bar Experiment

I was adding 1% isopropyl myristate and recently looked it up in case someone asked me about it. I read that it can clog pores and is bad for people with acne. I will continue to use it, but I will tell people not to use it on their faces, and at least now I am aware in case I get a complaint...

Cement as a craft? heck yeah!

For a very short while I was making cement hearts, when a neighbor said the cement would be much better if I let it harden under water, so I tried just immersing my molds in a tub of water after I put the cement in and they did look different after they hardened. I'm not sure what the...

How much super fat, how do you decide?

Thank you for asking this question. I never questioned superfatting, but now that you did, I'm reconsidering my superfat level of 5% and might reduce it because I don't use that much coconut oil and live in a very old house so saving my pipes is probably a good idea.

    Hacks and shortcuts!

This isn't about measuring oils or butters, but it is a small hack. I soap in my garage on a very long old wood table. I cover the table with a big black garbage bag. When I'm done soaping, I can just roll up everything and throw it away. As for measuring oils and butters, I do it in some...

    Underrated and Overrated Soaping Ingredients

In reference to adding rice flour to milk soap - I've been adding powdered milk and colloidal oats to the heated oil. Could I also add the rice flour to the oil instead of adding it to the lye solution?

First boutique! How much soap and other items to bring? Other advice?

A while back I noticed a few vendors where I was selling only took Zelle, Venmo or cash. I asked them if it affected their sales and they said it didn't, so I quit Square and Paypal altogether because they take a hunk of whatever you bring in. Just a thought. Also, if you have help, take lots...

    aloe + sugar?

I use aloe juice in place of the water, so it's not an added ingredient, it's used instead of water.
