    Rice Bran Oil Soap

Thank you! There is an Asian Grocery Store about 40 minutes from me, I never even thought to look there for RBO and rice bran powder. And also thank you for the rest of your comments, they've been very helpful.

Do you have a source in the US for high oleic RBO? :)

    Rice Bran Oil Soap

Do you have a good source for RBO? I have looked around and I know Cabelas used to carry it in the big tubs around the holidays for deep frying turkeys, but I have not seen RBO offered anywhere at a reasonable price for quite a while.

    Rice Bran Oil Soap

Yes, this is possibly the thing. My niece swears by the RB soap, she says it doesn't affect her sensitive skin at all. She is paying a hefty price to import it, though.

    Rice Bran Oil Soap

It's good to see the fatty acid profiles side by side, I have definitely studied the two oils because I do like the RBO qualities (aside from the fact it has a shorter shelf life than OO). The people who advertise Rice Bran soap have said that RBO contains Tocotrienol, the skin-loving variety of...

    Rice Bran Oil Soap

You are thinking like me, that all of those oils (including the fact there is little to no stearic acid) would produce DOS early on in the curing process. I want to make a bar that will last. Thank you for the suggestions!

    Rice Bran Oil Soap

Hey everybody! My niece has asked me if I can research and develop a rice bran oil soap, similar to the rice bran soaps made in Japan. I know the fatty acid profile of rice bran oil and olive oil are similar but rice bran oil does have a shorter shelf life. Even so, if a soap is primarily rice...

    Superfatting.... some questions

I'm still a little unclear on the whole superfat term. In hot process, it makes a lot of sense to my poor tired brain, since I add my superfat oils after the batch is cooked and saponified, so my superfats stay... ummm.. superfatted? unsaponified? In cold process, we're supposed to add the...

    Creamy cold process?

Thank you all. I'll try to pour at lighter trace and see if that makes a difference. I'm also using a recipe with a bigger percentage of olive oil to slow trace. I don't think it's the fo since it seems to happen in all my soaps but my recipe does trace fast so I'm tweaking it. Also the soap I...

    Creamy cold process?

Here is an example: First pic is a really nice and creamy textured soap top of someone in my FB soap group. The 2nd is my tiramisu soap. There's cocoa powder sprinkled on top, but you can kind of see my soap doesn't have a smooth creamy texture.

I'll try to post some tomorrow when I'm on a computer. :-) I'm on my mobile device now

    Share your regionally themed soap

My out of state friends tell me that my home state, California, is the land of fruits and nuts.

50:50 lard:olive oil. The results are in.

I can answer the unrelated question! The coffee scent will get killed by the lye. I use coffee quite a bit because I like how it looks in the ingredients list. :-) for scent, I use a fragrance oil.

    Beer and Lye weirdness

I did throw it out and restarted with a goats milk and coffee mix. That batch worked fine. I think I'll try again this weekend with a non alcohol beer and see how that works.

    Creamy cold process?

Hi all, this may be a silly question, but I've been looking at pics of a lot of soaps set up in their molds with very creamy looking soap. The soapers generally pattern the tops in waves and they look beautiful, smooth and creamy. My soaps, however, never look as creamy when they're thick enough...

    Beer and Lye weirdness

Ah, lye cake. Now that sounds familiar. Thank you, everyone. I didn't heat the alcohol off of the beer because the soaping 101 tutorial said that wasn't necessary. I'll try it again next weekend, with the alcohol cooked off of the beer and I'll try pouring my lye in more slowly.
