    Hostess Gift for Home Party?

I do it a bit differently. I give all hostesses a small gift, either a lip balm or a single bath sachet, something very inexpensive for me to make. Then I have various additional gifts for various levels of sales at the party (and the number of referrals from that party). I take the various gift...

Would you? (Formula change due to cost)

I use cocoa butter too and like it better than shea in my soaps. I just wanted to tell you that you can fill out the purchase box and then the columbs foods will add the shipping so you can see it. If t is too high, just back out and don't buy it. If you have questions about anything, they are...

Pulling my hair out trying to find lye.

I now get mine through AAAchemicals.com out of TX and it is less expensive than when I got it through ED, even with the free deal. So you may want to check it out. They have a shipping calculator so you will know before you fill out all the info.

    Question about swirling

The amount of liquid that you add can vary greatly. Some people use 26% water each time and others 38% water, while most change the percentage depending upon the recipe and the scent (need extra time to swirl or deal with a difficult FO, add the higher range of water). So adding a bit of extra...

I never want to line a mold again.

BrambleBerry has a 12 bar silicone mold for 12$ that I like. But I really love the wood loafs. I got very inexpensive, yet good quality ones from candlesandandwoodcraft.com this past year. They actually cost less than my old ones did!

    High "cleansing" value question

My salt soap is 75% coconut and it has a cleansing factor of 50. The first time I made it, I sf at 8% and it was still great, not too drying at all. I did increase that in later batches, but it really wasnt imperative.

    Speaking in Soap Tongue

I came across another soap vendor at my last show that had also been there last year, so this year she comes over and begins asking me questions about how I get xyz results and so on. I answered many because I enjoy discussing soap, but then I asked her how she got her goat milk soap so light...

CP help- Using extracts instead of oils??

You do not want to use anything containing alcohol in your cp soap as it will cause it to cease. You need to buy essential or fragrance oils for your soaps and you will want to make sure that any fragrance oil is listed as "reacting well" in cp soap, because some do not. If you are buying from a...

Question for correct lye amount to use for cp soap

I dont know, but I would wonder if a 25 on the hardness scale is too low? While I do go over and under the recommendations for certain soaps, this being a beginning bar, I would probably make it harder. Also, I would not use the coconut milk until I had made several batches without any milk...

Not finding what I need locally

I see that you found some, but in the future you may want to check out the least expensive place that I have found, with the best shipping price, for lye, AAAchemicals.com out of Texas. For me, the robeics was available at Lowes, but it was almost 14$ for 2 lbs! Since there is no place else...

    GRRRRRRR

Whether or not to cure soap for weeks is a personal choice. Any soap that does not zap is usable right away, but all will benefit from a longer cure time, growing milder and harder with age and evaporation. There is even a pretty large company that makes and slices and sends out their samples to...

How to insulate your soap loaf with a fancy swirl/peaked top

I always set mine down in a box and just close the lid. When I first tried that I also put a blanket on top, but I kept overheating and getting cracks, so now I just close the lid and that is that. It works just fine, I get gel without cracks!

    So Mad! Mold Issues...

Sorry about the ebay experience! If you dont want to make one, you can get very inexpensive and straight molds at http://www.candlesandwoodcrafts.com/ Their website is pretty retro, but the products are good and at a great price!

SALT SPA BARS / LET'S SEE YOUR PIC'S

Actually they really dont exfoliate much, and they are quite smooth really. They have a nice soft feel, and high bubble factor. They are not drying, generally they are super fatted to about 20%, some a bit more, some a maybe less. I find that you either love them or hate them. They can be a...

    Lye spots??

I agree with the others, looks like fractionation. The stearines in Palm Oil collect into groups of "like" stearines. We want/need a homogenous mixture so that there is a constant saponification value and the soap is consistent. To ensure that, we need to heat the entire batch of palm oil and...

    wanted: Soap Molds

The best prices I have ever seen on molds is from candlesandwoodcrafts.com There website is pretty old school, but they are nice people and make a great, well=priced mold. You will be very surprised at the cost and should be able to afford new ones from them!

    samples

I cut small, very small slices and squares for embedding and for samples from each loaf. I also keep a few larger sample sizes for "special" clients, as in potential vendors or gifts for current clients.

    Clumsiness

So sorry this happened to you! I feel you! I just spilled about an ounce of a blend I was in the process of creating. The biggest issue was that I had just used the last of my ylang ylang and had some patchouli in there too. So not only did I waste those, I had no idea what spilled or what the...
