Ugh, could baking soda be the culprit?

Hey All, I posted a bit ago about my tallow soaps being amazing then all of a sudden, out of the blue, my recipe had an issue, turning into mashed potatoes almost immediately upon adding my lye. I also noticed a lot of water in the molds. I've been searching the internet for any idea why this is...

    Three Batches Seized Immediately

OK, interesting. I'll check my scale, do small test batches and see what works. My seized batches were 60 oz and me being stubborn I kept thinking it wouldn't happen again, then it did. Some bars are salvageable the rest will be laundry soap!

    Three Batches Seized Immediately

Hmmmm, the tallow is from the same source but a different batch so that must be the reason because nothing rise changed between the successful batches and now. I ended up using HP for the third failed batch. I still need to cut it and check it out. I read a little about fatty acids from my...

    Three Batches Seized Immediately

No. It seized immediately upon adding the lye. I could even see the bottom turn white while the top remained liquid and yellowish. My only thought are more water and cooler temps like around 85-90.

    Three Batches Seized Immediately

Hi All, I have a recipe it's about 80% saturated oils, mainly beef tallow. I've made it before, it was easy, perfectly behaved soap. I just made three batches, all seized upon adding the lye water. The last batch I threw into a pot and into the oven. It looks like it will be an OK HP batch. The...

    Anyone use My World Hut?

I stumbled upon them, never heard of them before that. They are in Maryland which is really close to me. I wrote them an email, simple inquiry. I'll see how long it takes for them to reply, IF they reply.

    Anyone use My World Hut?

Hey all, I searched for natural camphor powder and found it here: http://www.myworldhut.com/ I was about to go crazy with an order from this site but decided to learn from past mistakes and google for reviews first. I saw some bad reviews. So I am hoping to get a review from one of you...

    Spray Nozzle Woes

I have not, I should, perhaps they have an answer. I would say yes that is the issue because I like a heavy scent BUT I have same problem with a toner/aftershave where I use a tiny bit of EOs. I need to ask NDA about them. Maybe they'll reply.

    Spray Nozzle Woes

Hi all, so I make home sprays with essential oils, alcohol, and a bit of water. I use 3 oz amber glass bottles and a white atomizer from NDA. When I pump to spray liquid spurts out the nozzle where the spray cap recesses into the nozzle. I have used these atomizers for a while and it seems to...

My 100% salt soap bars sweat

I have sweaty salt bars too! More this season than any other. I put them in the fridge and they are fine. But, when I take them out and wrap them, they sweat again. Typically, I use a type of pastry kraft paper, lightly waxed, the salt bars sweat right through. So, I am trying to wrap them, right...

No Zap from little liquid spots, what are they?

PenelopeJane, the white part of the soap don't bother me. Sometimes I discount my water to make more of them, I like the rustic look. I wanted to figure out what the leaky liquid is but it is hard to see in the photo. I showered with the soap yesterday and my skin didn't feel irritated but it...

No Zap from little liquid spots, what are they?

I think the pic is there...and of course it is rotated incorrectly. Anyways, the white spot along the green center is showing, though difficult to see, the shiny liquid. I have white spots in my HP soaps, that is not my concern but the liquid was until it didn't zap. Now I am just straight up...

No Zap from little liquid spots, what are they?

First, I failed to mention this is CPHP, so yes, I added my stuff after the cook. I suppose it could be sweat, just never had that on the inside of the loaf, appearing after the cut.

No Zap from little liquid spots, what are they?

Hey all, a hot process soap gave me issues, maybe the spirulina? I changed nothing else. Volcanoed like crazy! I salvaged it. Everything after that point went as it should. No zap. So I added my stuff, yogurt, buttermilk, EOS, and threw it into the mold. I cut it about 8 hours later and it...

    Help, unidentified soap base

Hello everyone, My SIL unearthed a bag of Country Soap Shack's goat milk soap base from her attic. I make CP & HP soaps. What do I do with these white cubes? I told my SIL I would make her some soaps but I have no idea what to do with these. Does anyone????

    Lye strength weaken over time

I knew you all would have a discussion about this subject! Hey all, we just moved into a home without air conditioning so I store my supplies in the cool basement with a dehumidifier running. It has been a wet and humid summer, my lye is forming large, hard clumps. I used them just the same...

    Rebatch Question

Hi All, I did not add enough lye, I know how much I am missing. Soap set up, a little soft on the ends but hard throughout 90% of the log. Question is can I rebatch (never rebatched before) in a crockpot and add the missing lye? Should I? What do you know/think? TY!
