    Extended saponification

Yesterday I tried, I added sodium lactate and the mixture was fluid enough after an hour of keeping it between 60-62°C (consistency or fluidity like shea butter). I waited below 50 °C stirring with the spatula to lower the temperature and added the essences. I increased the water a bit too. I...

    Extended saponification

@DeeAnna I have been using 20-25% water by weight of oils. Thanks for your answer. From what I understand, depending on the temperature and others components, they can predispose one stage over the other. When I raise the concentration of cetyl alcohol, the saponification accelerates as well as...

    Extended saponification

Thanks, ResolvableOwl, I really didn't know the difference between hot process and HTHP, I thought it was the same thing. Until now, when I saponified at a higher temperature, there is a point where the mixture gels or increases viscosity a lot, at which point the temperature increases faster...

    Extended saponification

Hi, I have been controlling the saponification without going above 70 °C to avoid the gel state. I have a blend that doesn't have a hard trace point. I was wondering how long I could keep it at 60-70°C to ensure almost all of the sodium hydroxide is consumed. Has anyone tried that? This has...

    Cetyl alcohol

Sorry, I tried the control and it lasts in the shower the same, I will continue using cetyl alcohol for my part.

    Cetyl alcohol

Most surfactants in shampoo have low water solubility. When I started using cetyl alcohol I started looking for formulas and found almost none that used cetyl alcohol. It may work to stabilize the lather and to some extent increase it, but does anyone have experience of the effect it has on the...

How to lower ph of a handmade CP soap?

I don't recommend it either, you avoid using a preservative with the basic pH.

    Cetyl alcohol

I have been using cetyl alcohol in my CP soaps. I have noticed that it makes the mixture more plastic when it hardens. It must be added together with the oils and not the trace point. I have added it at the trace point, but it clumps together, perhaps being careful with the temperature and...

beewax and candelilla wax in soap

I have been using 1% candelilla wax and noticed a difference with the foam. I like it because the soap is consumed homogeneously in the shower maintaining the shape almost to the end.

beewax and candelilla wax in soap

Hi, In your experience, after adding beewax or candelilla wax have you seen a difference in the lather of soap? I especially want to know if adding 1% candelilla wax will have an impact on the lather. Thanks :D

    Trouble with Caustic Soda

I used a glass beaker and after adding the NaOH I quickly covered the glass with aluminum foil. No precipitate formed in the solution (or floating precipitate). Before, precipitate formed on the walls as well (the remaining water that splashes on the walls of the glass when mixing with a rod)...

    Trouble with Caustic Soda

Thank you for your answers. My concern was that the case of undissolved sodium hydroxide could damage the skin later or that NaOH was not consumed in the saponification. I imagine that sodium carbonate does not have a major impact on the formula. In any case, I will take the care that you...

    Trouble with Caustic Soda

Hi, I have been reducing the amount of water for sodium hydroxide. I use a little more water in the 1: 1 ratio, but I have had the problem that it is not completely transparent as when I use more water. When I add just a little bit of water the mixture becomes more cloudy and it is difficult...

    Hi

I am 31 years old, I've been making soaps for a year, I previously worked in compounding for a while. but it did not work very well, I hope in a while to sell my soaps and explore other areas. I want to learn from you and help if I can.

    Sensitive Skin

🥰 Thanks. I think that in addition to the fatty acids that remain in the final formula, @_Corrine12_ should also think about what oil they use, there are cases of people who are allergic to coconut oil, etc, maybe it's from the lauric acid or maybe it's another non-fat component. or maybe shea...

    Sensitive Skin

in some recipes I lowered the amount of short chain acids, presumably low-carbon 12-chain acids have a higher sensitivity. But now in my recipes I don't lower the amount below 10% because the foam is bad. I am attaching a table, I recommend that more than fixing the amount of each oil, you look...

Extra stages in cold process soap

Yes, good post, I want to go along that line. I want to keep the whole process except for saponification at room temperature. I hope to give you more details in a while.

Extra stages in cold process soap

I use platic film, for a while I used the aluminum molds that amazon sells to extract oil (rosin pre press mold, anodized aluminum), I had no problem although I still used the film.
