Palm-free replacements for Syndet Shampoo Ingredients

May I pick up this old thread or have someone point me to a newer one? I too am trying to make a Palm free syndet bar and was wondering if anyone had found anything new on this quest. I think I have narrowed it down to palm-free SCI and the ES1822+ Natural Emulsifier over at Simply Ingredients...

    Stephenson Shampoo Bar Preservative?

All, please help me with the Stephenson Shampoo bar. What preservative do they use and do I need to add more if I add stuff? I get that their product is trademarked so they don't want to disclose everything but there has to be a preservative, right? Water is one of the few ingredients that they...

    What's up at NDA?

Hey all, I need some guidance from the pros. Sorry in advance if this is the wrong forum for this! I am getting ready to make a big batch of soap for the holidays and have been using New Directions Aromatics almost exclusively for Mango Butter, Babassu Oil, and Fair Trade Shea Butter...

The "One Recipe" Theory - Question

Outstanding thread Wendy90292! This has been so interesting to read! I also started with AnnMarie recipes and eventually expanded out based on the things that were important to me. My main recipe is 30% Olive oil, 30% Babassu oil, 30% Shea Butter, and 10% Castor Oil. Taking the lye calculator...

    Lumpy soap?

Batch One: Patchouli, Frankincense, Vetiver Batch Two: Lemon 5 Fold, Lemongrass, Vetiver, Juniper Berry (I call it "Exurge Diem", get it? Squeeze the Day! Cracks me up so much!) Hmmm, ding, ding, ding, we may have a winner. I hadn't realized that the vetiver was in both of them. Duh. This is...

    Lumpy soap?

New Directions Aromatics is the supplier. Seemed ok, never had bad luck with them, except their basil is way too licorice smelling.

    Lumpy soap?

Hmmm, yes but it was essential oils not fragrance oil and it was two batches and two different blends of eo. Now I can't stop thinking about ricing, you may have hit on something there, Kiwi Moose!!

    Lumpy soap?

A couple of batches of cold process soap this weekend have developed a grainy or lumpy texture after stick blending. I always have trouble getting my temps right in the spring and fall but I got a sneaking suspicion that maybe the temps are a red herring and it's my stick blender dying. Any...

    facepalm

You are so sweet to give me the benefit of the doubt! I love this group! It is definitely a colorant issue, I looked like I was joining the circus this morning when I tried to wash my hands. The recipe is 30% olive oil, 30% babassu oil, 30% Shea butter, 10% castor. None of my other bars do this...

Any particular oils that you can't use due to irritation?

I am actually working on this too for my brother, it seems that he is sensitive not only to certain oils but can also tell when the percentages are tweaked. I think what he needs is just a good plain Castille. I decreased the olive oil in my main recipe and upped the shea butter less than 10%...

Y'all. I had a little trouble with my titanium dioxide. I think it's too much. What do you think? 🤦‍♀️

    Weird Color Question

All, thank you so much! This is fascinating! I finally got to experiment today and here are the results, ignore all the air bubbles, I was mixing up this batch before work and it was a bit devil may care, but the color is pretty dang close to what I was hoping to achieve. This is a coffee lye...

    Weird Color Question

I seek the guidance of my revered soapy elders! How do I make a soap intentionally colored the same color as fragrance oil discoloration but without the fragrance oil? Will coffee in the lye solution do the trick? Beer? Tea? What if I soaked a vanilla bean in the oils and then strained out the...

    Mica line concern

I am finding that there is a whole world of wonderful meat related soaps. Since I heard it mentioned in a video somewhere I can't unsee it, which has completely ruined pink soap for me. If you can find a way to make it smell like bacon, I will be your first customer!🤣

    Lye mix liquid replacement?

No fragrance, well it smells like carrot of course but that doesn't come through. I use a 5fold lemon combo.

    Lye mix liquid replacement?

Thanks! I haven't had any trouble with staining but good to know it happens with the other ones. Great tip!

    Mica line concern

Beautiful soaps!!! I did a titanium dioxide line once and it was a mess. The soap itself was tragically reminiscent of a slab of beef anyway so they didn't make it out of the house, but they were fragile at the line.

    Lye mix liquid replacement?

I make my lye solution by substituting carrot juice for the water in one my most popular soaps. It comes out an incredible yolky yellow even though it starts orange, stays orange in the batter, you would swear that this is going to be an orange soap, but then it settles into this perfect, bright...

Partial gel - soaping too hot?

    Interesting, I use 1.5:1, is that 40%?

    Soap smells bad, what gives?

That is a very sad story! Please tell me it has a happy ending!
