    What happened to this soap??

Trial by Fire by Nurture Soaps. It is amazing! And the red does not bleed, at least that has been my experience and I read it from others. I did realize this was the only time I hand blended a batch. I wonder if that could have contributed as someone mentioned. I found I could not trust...

    What happened to this soap??

Thanks for the feedback, I am hoping it is just ash. It was only on the foil for a second, I ran out of parchment paper. Its now on a lined shelf. Only thing new was using black iron oxide, which I've used before but not with this fragrance oil. I made an identical batch 2 weeks ago and it was...

    What happened to this soap??

I just unmolded this soap and I have no idea what I am looking at. The outside has an ashy almost thick powdery coating on it. I almost thought it was mold at first, it had that sort of crumply almost fluffy look. Ive used this recipe before, nothing about this was new. Parts almost had a...

    Soap Swelling in Mold

I only used the orange because I got it in a sample, same with the blue. Normally I wouldn't think to soap with this color combo but adding a neutral really seems to pull it all together. It's funny because my original plan was for this to be black with intense orange and teal...I think I...

    Soap Swelling in Mold

Thank you everyone for the support, I put the covered mold on my concrete garage floor last night and left it all day. Stays around 50 or so degrees in there. Here is the cut. I love it! The original idea was to do a double hangar swirl and I did try, but the top layer was thick and I was...

    Soap Swelling in Mold

Yes the wood is new. I previous used the harder silicone molds from brambleberry. I turned off the heating pad and unwrapped it. If it over heated too much what might happen to the soap? Would it crumble?

    Soap Swelling in Mold

So I just made this batch of soap and I am using a new mold I haven't used before. I am gelling the soap and I went to quickly peek at it and noticed is is bulging ever so lightly in the middle. I've used this recipe before and the fragrance oil. The only thing new it a single mica, Saffron...

Can you check my recipe for workability?

I know I am very excited to try it, especially to see how the sugar worked out. It unmolded so nicely too. I gave it an extra 15 hours or so based on some recommendations I read on the mold. Thanks again for your help!

Can you check my recipe for workability?

Final update...for now. I wanted to show you my most recent batch! I changed the recipe jumping off at your suggestion and I was very happy! Very workable, I know I over blended it so I could have had pretty good time for swirls had I not blended too far. This was made with my 4inch...

Can you check my recipe for workability?

That you for the recipe suggestion, I am playing around with it in soap calc and with the sugar i have a great feeling. I had already started my batch with the recipe I gave when you posted. Unmolded softer than I hoped but it did make a pretty bar. but I know I can do better. The siwrled...

Can you check my recipe for workability?

I do not want to use animal fats, so that is a factor in this as well.

Can you check my recipe for workability?

Thank you for the detailed feedback. I will research the water to lye ratios so I better understand how to use them safely. I have a smaller mold coming, the one I have was part of the kit I got for christmas and it makes ALOT of soap. Luckily I have some very supportive friends and coworkers...

Can you check my recipe for workability?

Can I get your feedback? I think I am dialing in on my chosen recipe. This will be my 4th batch, the last one I made was similar, very similar to this. It did thicken up on me faster than expected, but I think that was because I had my doors and windows open and it cooled too fast. I was...

Stearic Acid Spots? Or Something Else

Thank you all for the replies. I looked up Zap testing and it does appear to be safe. I will work on better temp control and I am adjusting my recipe to add some different oils/butters so I will see how the batch turns out.

Stearic Acid Spots? Or Something Else

I am curious if anyone can tell me what these streaks are in my soap? I am thinking it is stearic acid from palm oil I didn't heat well enough. Seems to be through out the whole batch. I use Coconut Oil, Olive Oil. Palm Oil, Avocado Oil and Castor Oil. I soaped at closer to room temp this...
