A gift: Essential Oil IFRA Calculator

Oh gosh. This is perfect and so extremely generous! I can't imagine a better christmas present LOL. And I don't even have to change anything since I use the same supplier as you.

My first DOS - and its real bad!

This is so weird - I got DOS on my lavender bastille soap too, twice.

    Where can I find...?

I'm working on my first body cream recipe and I can usually find anything I need at swiftcraftymonkey's blog. Here is her carrier oil comparison chart - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1020026/carrieroilcomparisonchart.pdf. Edited to add: Also, if you'll scroll down here, you can find her posts...

    what do you prefer....

I use both EO's and FO's. I agree with soapbuddy - people like different things. But I myself prefer the EO blends. Somehow FO's never live up to my expectations. Other people really like it, but I always think the scents just lack something. I think I'll try doing my own FO blends next, maybe...

What does your screen name mean?

Yeah, I have trouble coming up with names too. Margarita is simply a character in one of my favourite books - The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov.

    heating and holding

IrishLass - you're my savior! I really wanted to try my hand at lotion making, but I just couldn't think of a convenient way to do it in my kitchen without investing in a huge fondue pot like SwiftCraftMonkey has LOL. Thank you! (Once again 8) )

Is Cold Process more profitable than M&P?

To me - there's a huge difference. I've worked in a small shop which sold MP soaps for a few years, so I used quite a lot of it. After I've started making my own CP soaps, I would never go back. To me, MP is almost the same as store bought soap. It's prettier and smells better, but it did...

Three new soaps and example of DOS

So sorry about the DOS! I got DOS twice on my bastiles - first one was curing during the winter, it took 6 months. The other batch was made in May and it DOS'ed in three months. I used different olive oils, but I guess oil adulteration is still a possible cause. But your other soaps are gorgeous!

    My first pumpkin soap

Thank you everyone! Every time I sniff them I want to get a bite (or two), cause they smell just like cookies we bake before Christmas. The tops are Lyn inspired lol! At first I tried to make proper Lyn tops, but every time I ended up with something like this. I gave up  And now I...

    My first pumpkin soap

It was my first time using pureed veggies and I think it came out quite nice. Although my charcoal somehow ended up green instead of black  I'm always afraid to put too much of it and get grey lather. I used cinnamon, nutmeg and clove fo and it smells very, very nice.

    My botched batch of CP

dOttY, seriously, stop being so hard on yourself! I have never seen such beautiful soaps from someone who has just started. Your Lyn tops are perfect, stamp is perfect, the soap itself looks gorgeous and creamy. And the ash is actually pretty here

Q: hard oils vs. soft oils?

For quite some time I was making my soaps with 50/50 hard and soft oils. These soaps made my skin feel really good, but they were too soft for my taste and melted too fast in the shower. So now I'm working on a recipe that gives me a harder bar, but still leaves my skin soft.

Catherine Failor's shower gel recipe with 20% lye excess

I'm really very new to making liquid soaps (actually I've only started researching), but just today I was reading here about that lye excess issue. It says that KOH has about 10% impurities, so Failor actually ends up doing 2% lye excess instead of 12%. And then she neutralizes it. Summer Bew...

    Salt bars

You must try them! I bet Lyn saltbars would be fantastic  And thanks again everyone!

    Salt bars

Thanks everyone! It was ITM swirl, since my ITP never looks very good. Well, actually, I just dumped the different colored soap in the mold, swirled a little and then hoped for the best LOL. dOttY, I agree with everyone, go for it! It's really not that complicated, especially if you do it in...

    Salt bars

I'm pretty happy how they turned out! The South Wind, scented with grapefruit, orange and litsea essential oils. The North Wind, scented with spearmint essential oil. Now I need to make the other two :)

Reformulate shampoo bar recipe. Would you please evaluate?

It was really interesting to read everyone's preferences regarding shampoo bars. I make mine a lot more cleansing (coconut at about 30%) and superfat only at 3%. My hair is normal, sometimes leaning a bit to the oily side, and with this recipe it's still super soft, voluminous and shiny.

    How much natural it is?

If you sell soap in Europe, you have to list all of the allergens separately in the ingredients. So my guess would be that these are simply part of the essential or fragrance oil

    Coconut Bastille

I made some salt bars today with grapefruit, orange and litsea essential oils. Smells amazing! Can't wait to cut it and hit the beach LOL

    Castille Soap

I'm no expert, but I use EVOO since it's actually cheaper out here than the regular one. And I don't like pomace. I superfat at 6% and it still is really mild. My lye concentration was 35%, next time I'll do 40%, though I was able to unmold and cut it the next day. It was almost too late!
