Using an online calculator for usage rates

The melissa im using in my lip balm is a delution in sunflower oil, because on its own its expensive, plus it'll be safer on the lips. I know that, but i already asked the author of the book about the usage rates for cosmetics before buying. Also, the usage rate for bergamot in the book was...

Using an online calculator for usage rates

I have no idea what you mean in your whole first paragraph, or about confrontation. There's also a difference between a 'expert' soaper or experienced soaper and a licenced aromatherapist who follows the same guidelines as tisserand, which to my knowledge is expert at the highest degree. So...

How do we feel about canola (rapeseed) oil?

The link i sent on my previous message was from a legitimate source, medical and science based, and it said pretty much the same thing as yours about gmo's, except your quote above said "may" be bad for you. May is a nothing word, it means they don't know. Most oils that contain omega 6 and...

Using an online calculator for usage rates

I use things like peppermint essential oil in my lip balm, but ive decided to mix peppermint with melissa (lemon balm) for another, and because im doing 100g batches, i dont need to use as much of an expensive oil. I want my lip balms to be beneficial for a certain purpose, without obviously...

    Jelly Soap

I see your point, maybe the long embeds won't work, but i seen on pinterest people doing jelly heart embeds and putting them in a goats milk melt & pour soap. I suppose you can only test it out. I might try it one day, and show you my disaster!

Using an online calculator for usage rates

That's cool. And i know i ask different questions on other people's threads, its my trademark! I find things too ridid if you can only talk about the one thing. Anyway... Thanks for this. But, this is where its getting confusing... Bergamot essential oil has a maximum usage rate of 0.4% (4g)...

How do we feel about canola (rapeseed) oil?

The only downside ive read is that it has a very short shelf-life. Not sure how that works when its made into soap, so maybe someone could explain that, if they know. I also found an interesting link, which i'll put below. There seems to be a lot of contradicting info about canola oil online. I...

    Amino acid soap Base

As far as im aware, cocoyl glutamic acid contains 1 amino acid, glutamate. And its a mild surfactant, and a detergent. You need 9 essential amino acids to make a complete protein. Im probably way off topic here, but ive done the research into amino acids, and there is an additive that adds...

Could I make my Soap smell like one specific Deodorant

Thanks. Math, numbers, calculations, etc isn't something im good it, i struggle with that. So far ive had to write everything down. Its overwhelming sometimes that i just give up and go back to it at a later date. I was stuck on knowing how much essential oil to use in soap, based on the maximum...

Could I make my Soap smell like one specific Deodorant

I haven't made cold process yet, ive only made melt & pour so far. I know how to use the soap calc, i just didn't realise i'd need to if i have TheGecko's recipe in front of me, that's why i asked how much water. I take it that you should put all recipes though the calculator?

Could I make my Soap smell like one specific Deodorant

That's what i was wondering, how much water to your recipe, 33% then?

    Jelly Soap

I also have the stephenson jelly soap base, but haven't used it yet. I wasn't sure what to do with it either, but i thought it might be a good idea to use it to make embeds for melt & pour soap or maybe cold process. I have a couple of those long silicone tubes for making embeds.

Could I make my Soap smell like one specific Deodorant

Aw yeah, i don't know why i keep getting mixed up. It is rapeseed. I watch uncle jons soapmaking on youtube, and he uses canola oil. Barley oil is meant to be similar in properties to corn oil, but its rare to find. How do they get away with pricing it so high... maybe people are just paying...

Will these soap recipes I created work for their intended use?

Yeah that's right. That hardcopy book i posted is about the only complete source ive found, just wish it was in an easy to follow list online. Ive started manually typing from the book into my notebook pro app on my samsung tablet, so that it is a list.

Soap going rancid and I cannot figure out why.

Thanks, i never thought of that! Im probably going to sound like an idiot now, and my math is terrible, so yeah i know the weight of one drop now, but how do you know i need 0.5g? All this is confusing! Essential oil calculations, roe, etc is my weak point in all this.

Will these soap recipes I created work for their intended use?

Thanks, i already linked that in my previous reply. It was more a site telling you what the oils contained (oleic acid, lauric acid, etc) that i was looking for. But SoapCalc is good enough, along with the book i attached to the last message.

Soap going rancid and I cannot figure out why.

Weighing a drop on my scales is extremely difficult, even when it goes two decimal places. Its a MyWeigh Triton T3R precision scale. It doesn't even register until i use two drops. But 1 drop of ROE is 0.015g.

Could I make my Soap smell like one specific Deodorant

Yeah, i get what you mean. I use argan oil in lip balm, but its far too expensive to use in soap, when i can use olive oil, rice bran oil or canola oil. Quick question: is corn oil and canola oil the same thing? Again, lots of contradicting articles online. I buy unrefined shea for my lip balm...

Will these soap recipes I created work for their intended use?

Thanks for the in-depth reply. I never actually thought about using SoapCalc that way for oil properties, so that's good to know. Im still a beginner in cold process. @TheGecko, i tried google, and all i found was stuff like this, which is still good for bookmarking. I completely forgot that i...
