Caution: Soap thicken by lavender FO/EO

Thanks @AliOop. I was so frustrated and dismayed by the soap I wanted gone in case it wasn’t safe. I’m going to try the recipe again to see if was maker error or the recipe itself. Wish me luck! I’m interested if P80 would solve this issue. Maybe I’ll set some aside and see what happens.

Caution: Soap thicken by lavender FO/EO

I’ve had the worse luck with my soap lately. First, my most recent bar soaps had a thick sticky ash that wouldn’t go away. I ended up throwing it away because I thought it was unsafe. Then a friend asked me for lavender soap. I dissolved 8 oz of my favorite glycerin soap paste. It took a little...

    Mysterious white ring

Update: I made two batches (feeling extra soapy this weekend). The first one I made was a huge success. I followed the advice given...no PS80, adding FO around 140 and not using a stick blender to incorporate the fragrance resulted in a beautiful clear liquid soap. No more mysterious white...

    Mysterious white ring

@DeeAnna @Susie @Zany_in_CO I completely missed your comments. Sorry. I was reading Zany's NSCS thread. Good Stuff! I learned a lot...made my first bars yesterday. I am going to try a new batch without the PS80 this weekend. 🤞 Hopefully, there will be no white ring.

    More Lather Needed

Thanks @Susie! Your suggestion worked. I added 1 tsp/ppo to my latest batch. The amount of lather was amazing!

    Mysterious white ring

Help please! I’m trying to figure out what is causing a white ring on the surface on the soap. I think the culprit is Polysorbate 80. Every time I add Poly 80 along with my fragrance, the mysterious ring appears. When I don’t add the Poly 80, no ring. Am I using too much? Currently, I’m using...

    More Lather Needed

Thank you @Susie! I will add some sugar to my next batch. Just to make sure I understand, I should add 1 tbls of sugar ppo during the saponification stage not at dilution. Is that correct?

    More Lather Needed

Thank you DeeAnna. This all makes perfect sense. I was focused on soap's viscosity, I didn't realize that I was sacrificing the soap's lathering ability. I think I'll add a little more water to my current batch to see what happens.

    More Lather Needed

Thank you for the suggestion. Honey & Beer sounds interesting. We always have honey and beer on hand. Do you use the beer in lieu of distilled water to mix with the lye? When do you add the honey?

    More Lather Needed

This past weekend, I decided to try Irish Lass’s Creamy Cocoa Shea GLS recipe for a second time. My first attempt, I didn’t following directions properly which resulted in a soap that was less than desirable. This time, I slowed down and read the recipe several times. My second attempt resulted...

    Hello from Cali

Hi All! Over the years, I have made body butters and scrubs to combat my family’s dry skin woes. This year, I decided to take a hard look at the items we are putting on our bodies. I started by making my own deodorant. Then, I moved on to lotion (still working on recipe that I truly like)...
