Beyond Frustrated. I need a recipe.

I typically use the IGI6006 wax and I have found that the HTP wicks have worked the best with that wax. I struggled with the CD and ECO wicks and could not find a size that worked consistantly. I did a lot of trial and error with the GW 464 soy wax and I could never get those candles to be...

Should Beginners Try Their Own Recipes?

Welcome! I started out using a simple recipe that was a small batch. I had done a lot of research before I made my first batch and I wanted to make sure I had a chance of it coming out. I am glad I did that because it helped me see what the process looked like hands on without being over...

How Serious Are You About Soap Making?

Is it just something you do for fun sometimes? I enjoy making soap with all the possibilities available Do you just use pots, pans, and utensils you already owned and use for cooking? I went to the dollar store and grabbed a few things as I was not comfortable using lye in my cooking pots. Do...

Beginners question including lye and overheating

Welcome! When I started making soap I stuck to a very simple recipe which helped me learn and it also built up a little confidence as I was nervous about using lye. There are so many great resources here and I think you have the right idea about learning from this so next time is better! Good luck

Dyes, Micas, or Natural Colorants for Beginners?

I fell down that rabbit hole when I first started  - there were so many pretty colors and my imagination ran wild. Thankfully I love making soap so they are getting used.

    Batch of soap that riced

@lucycat I soaped at about 95 and I brought it to a light trace, then separated out my accent color (used TD). I added my mica to the base and used a spatula to mix in the color. I added the Beach FO at the last second and had to stick blend. Then i poured my accent color for the swirl. My...

Dyes, Micas, or Natural Colorants for Beginners?

I like using micas for swirls or designs. I have found they disperse well in the soap batter. I had a difficult time using some of the clays -I couldn’t seem to get them to incorporate all the way.

    Batch of soap that riced

@Quanta I will keep that in mind with FO! Thank you for the reminder about the recipes. @Catscankim I may use the rest of the FO in lotion or scrubs. It’s too bad though because it smells great in the soap.

    Batch of soap that riced

Thank you @AliOop. They are growing on me. @Obsidian Thanks. You are right they do kind of look like rain drops. I used the FO Beach from WSP. The description on WSP said no ricing or acceleration but a lot of the reviews said that the FO riced, so I knew there was a good chance that was...
