    Max amount of EO?

So the sweet succulent wifey of mine wants me to make her a personal loaf of soap with lavender EO. She wants me to add more EO then the recommended 3% because she thinks that amount isn’t enough and makes a weak scented bar of soap. I personally agree with certain scents this is true, but...

    Practicing swirls

Here are some of my favorite soaps I’ve been making. I’m sure all of you can tell how I poured, nothing fancy, just trying to get down the different trace, and pours and color experimentation. The blue and white one(sky soap) is my favorite actually, I only put .1 oz of clove EO and it seized...

    Packaging affect curing?

It’s Christmas time! So I’m getting soaps ready to send to family and friends. The soap I am sending was made a couple weeks ago and some only a week ago. I’m leaving notes with the bars that they need to be decoration for a few weeks before use. I’m wondering if shrink wrapping them for...

    Adding Shea butter

Howdy y’all!!! Haven’t posted in a while, but I’ve been actively making soap! I have several beautiful bars now I have the mix and pour down finally! I am wanting to start using Shea butter in my recipe but can’t decide which ingredient to subtract to add it. Here’s the recipe as of now: 50%lard...

    Hear of this brand?

We went to a local craft store to get some fun gender reveal stuff, and we saw an isle with oils. All are this brand. Most were fragrance oils with a few EOs. Ever heard of this brand??

    Good mixture?

We ordered some more melt and pour. The 5 lb of honey soap base, the 2 1 lb bricks of goats milk base, and - small tub of Shea butter. What’s a good % of these to go together? Shea shouldn’t be more then 20% correct? Maybe half and half of the two bases then the 20% Shea?

    Remelt m&p

I made a batch of M&P a while back when I first started and used the hand held cutter. The cuts were crooked and the soap looks horrible! So I’m wondering if I could remelt them and pour into single molds instead? I used a mixture of honey base, goats milk and Shea.

    Instant mashed potatoes?!!!!

So I wanted to make some soap for Christmas gifts for family so I started now so they could be ready in time, got green and red colors and started. I decided to use a whisk to keep it from getting too thick for swirls. Used 50% lard, 25% alvocado, 20%CO, 5% castor. Mixed the oils and lye and all...

    Soap still not hard??

So I’ve been lucky and had many successful batches, well my beginners luck has finally ran out. I made 2 batches last night, one I tried the heat transfer, that did NOT work, the batch seized up before the lard melted, and that batch is still mushy right now, the second batch I made same recipe...

    First rebatch

Here we are at it again! So one of my first swirl soap I made, as you can see, didn’t mix good at all! I poured the two colors down each side of the mold at the same time then got a skewer stick and mixed sideways. Obviously it didn’t do a darn thing! So I got a cheese grater and sliced 2 of the...

    First 3 color swirls

First picture, the too short bars were done last Wednesday, other two Saturday night, our first try at a 3 color combination! We went with a Halloween themed soap for the holiday. We just poured down the center back and forth, the Halloween one did a circle motion up and down the mold. We’ve...

    Vegetable oil for practice?

So I’ve made a lot of soap so far with a few recipes I liked, waiting to cure to try. I’m really wanting to make more soap to practice with swirls and color technique. So instead of using all of my good oils, I’m thinking of using veggie oil for a substitute since it’s dirt cheap for practice...

    Mold??

Howdy! I made a fabulous vanilla coffee soap last weekend, I used : 10oz lard 6oz CO 4oz grape seed oil Whatever the lye weight was the calc spit out with 2:1 I used coffee grounds from the pot of coffee that was brewed that morning(made soap that night), maybe a tablespoon worth in each bowl...

    What we got so far

We’ve experimented with different colors, recipes, M&P, we are feeling really confident with the lye and not over mixing. Still lots to learn! So with the soap we have now we are going to let it cure for the next year to see how it holds up, while fine tuning our preferences and what we like...

    First melt and pour

Hello! We had one brick of honey soap base, and one of goats milk. We mixed them together(about 2:1 honey:goat milk). We added a couple big scoops of Shea butter also. Melted to, added peppermint FO, separated in two bowls, put charcoal in one and left other one as is. We melted in a double...

    First official homemade soap!

I’ve made soap a few times before this, but it was before a scale and just used a google converter to change ounces to cups( I know you’re shaking your heads lol). Anyways, I got the scale yesterday and made a mix off the top of my head with 16oz lard and 8 oz coconut oil. Went with simple. Came...

Howdy y’all!! My name is Loran, I am a dude(thanks mom and dad). I am 38 years old, grew up in Arizona and moved to Mississippi for a change of scenery. My interest in soap making recently sparked when I remembered a childhood moment when I was visiting my grandmas house in Kansas. I was...
