    Been a while

Haven’t been here in quite some time. Started soaping again recently. Here is most recent batch. Best part about hanger swirls is not knowing what it will look like. This might be one of my favorite batches of all time.

    My first batch

Awesome!! Best part of soap making is that you never know what is going to happen. As long as you take your time, pay attention, and don't obsess there is always the potential for awesome results. Once I learned to just accept that sometimes it is a crapshoot I enjoyed myself so much more.

    Been awhile

Hello everyone. Been awhile since I posted. Kind of burned myself out on the whole soapmaking thing. Had at least 100 bars sitting around and then I just lost my passion for it. Took a personal day the other day and decided to make a batch. Took my time and so happy with the results. Hope...

    Lotion Bars

those molds are always hit or miss for me. no matter what my recipe is I have to leave it in the mold for 4-5 days or those little nubs break off. if you are just starting out making soap you are better off just using a regular loaf/rectangular mold so you don’t get frustrated with the results.

    Valentine’s Day soap

Thanks. Once again my results are mostly dumb luck. I was trying to do a feather swirl so it kind of came out like I planned. As for the meat soap, I was very worried about that but I think most meat soaps are the result of ITP swirls or tiger swirls that use more of the reds. I only used 12.5%...

    Valentine’s Day soap

Here is my latest batch. I know I should have made this 6 weeks ago but better late than never. Winter White, Trial By Fire from Nurture, along with Voodoo from Mad Micas. FO is Black Raspberry Vanilla from Nurture. Was looking for a feather swirl but I got impatient and didn’t let my batter...

    Help identifying these substances...

The flatter looking flakes look like Palm Kernel Oil flakes. Not sure about the other stuff. If you can’t find out for sure what they are I wouldnt do anything with it.

    Herbalicious FO from Nurture

Has anyone out there used Herbalicious FO from Nurture Soaps.? I ordered two 1oz bottles just to see the color morphing that is talked about in the description and the reviews. Think I will just make a small 1lb batch of white soap colored with Winter White and use this FO and see what kind of...

    Hard Oils/Heated Lye Transfer

your recipe only has one hard oil so not sure why you would even need to do the heat transfer method. with all those soft oils you are probably soaping way too hot. Also your recipe is only adding up to 90%. What is the other 10%?

First soaps of 2022 happy new year 🎊

"Ethereal" is the word that comes to mind. Gorgeous soaps. I have not done anything yet this year. Lost a little bit of my mojo to be honest. These have inspired me to make some soap this weekend. Thanks for sharing @violets2217

    "Pork fat" Vs Lard

My family on my father's side comes from Spain and Iberico Ham is top of the line and in my opinion would be a crime to waste that making soap. Just my opinion but if you got it cheap and don't have any use for it then go for it.

making shave soap for the first time

Appreciate the feedback. This was my first stab at both shave soap and hot process so I wanted to follow step by step instructions first and then start analyzing and learning more. In a weird way I am happy that you were able to find the faults in this recipe. It will also be good to start out...

    Birch Natural mistake

Thanks @DeeAnna for the response. I am embarrassed that I even used it without researching safe usage rate first. I am usually very thorough about stuff like that. It was literally 3 or 4 drops which probably works out to be fractions of a percent. To be honest I think it’s kind of silly to send...

What type or brand of FO for CP Lard soap

The supplier should be able to give you a safe usage rate for that particular fragrance oil that they sell. Somewhere between 3-6% of your total oil weight is pretty common for fragrance oils. For essential oils you need to be more careful because they have very specific safe usage rates that...

    Birch Natural mistake

I made my first shave soap tonight and i put a couple of drops of Birch Natural essential oil and had no idea it was toxic. It was from a sample vial i had from Appalachian Valley Natural products. The recipe contained 500g of oil. The sample vial contains .3ml. i think it was literally 2 or 3...

using KOH for the first time

Getting ready to use KOH for the first time and bought a 2lb bottle off Amazon of the Essential Depot brand. Does anyone know what purity their KOH is? I am looking at the MSDS sheet and saw this on page 4. Component Percent [%] CAS Number Potassium...

    New to soapmaking

Welcome to the forum. My soapmaking journey started after ordering a few bars of Dr. Squatch and Bearsville Soap company. I was intrigued by the idea of making the soap myself. That was over a year ago and I have not bought anything from them again. Soapmaking can be an expensive hobby but in...

making shave soap for the first time

Happy New Year to everyone. I am about to make my first shave soap recipe and I will be using a recipe from Jan Berry's book - Simple and Natural Soapmaking. It is the Classic Cedarwood and Coconut Milk Shave Soap. Not really looking for a lengthy debate on what makes a great shave soap or what...
