    Yellow African Shea Butter Soap

Lovely. I bought this same Shea butter from Amazon last year and just now made soap with it. I used 20% and found that my package of 7.5 oz had lost some moisture and I had to dip into another container to get my 7.2 oz for my recipe so good thing I just didn't eyeball it or dump in the whole...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today I finally cracked the seal of my 50lb tub of sodium hydroxide I purchased on 9/16/20 and transferred it to more manageable containers. I had stopped soaping for a couple years but recently caught the bug and have been making a batch or two with my son on the weekend. I finally used all...

    Yellow African Shea Butter Soap

Thanks for sharing your soap experience. I purchased the same Shea butter with every intention of using it for soap. I found a great deal on it and couldn't pass it by. I assumed it would turn my soap a dark color but you give me hope that I will have a lovely soap with it.

What scents are you drawn to?

My favorite soap scent is Coconut Lime Verbena. I also bought something called Christmas cabin that smells very "spicy" and the colors gold, silver and white came out beautifully. My friends and family love the Black Cherry. I also made a pine fragrance soap that I like much more than I...

    First batch!

Congratulations, the stick blending will get easier. Fragrances will make a difference in your blending. I always try to look for fragrance that behaves nicely in soap from other reviewers so I will know what I am in for.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I use lavender mint from Natures garden and really like it. The mint does seem stronger than the lavender but I prefer it to the lavender soap. I use a light green, lavender and white and make a beautiful design.

    Fragrance Oil Review Chart Link

I do love this fragrance review spreadsheet. I need to be better about adding my input because I sure do appreciate the input of others. I like to buy my fragrances in larger bottles but sometimes...without testing that is a mistake.

Exotic fats that don't have SAP value

So happy to see this thread. I was gifted some lovely bear fat yesterday and wondered about the Sap value....took me two seconds to find it! Now to render the fat.

    Any coconut milk tips?

When I made coconut milk soap it got really hot, definitely went through gel phase and I felt like my Micas bled a little because of it. I froze my coconut milk before adding the lye. Now when I make milk soap, I stick it in the freezer for the first couple hours in the mold to keep the...

    Temparture for lye and oils?

I always soap at room temp. You may be interested in checking out CPOP that is cold process, oven process. I have not yet tried it but it looks like people get more vibrant colors because their soap goes through a "gel" phase.

Hi! Im new And I made my first Bar!

I see someone already mentioned but your lye does not need to be warm. I often make my lye water in the morning or the night before I soap. I mix my oils too...then when its time to soap its just the fun part left. You did so much for your first soap, embed and a stamp. I don't know how to...

    I just don't know!!

someone gave me the tip to heat my jars and then wrap them in aluminum foil. It keeps my jars warm and the wax cools slower not leaving imperfections.

What soapy thing have you done today?

My lavender mint was quickly chosen by my friends who smelled it as well as ordered by friends online. I always try to remember it is not about what I like but what my customers/ friends want. We all have unique tastes so I ask what fragrances they like and try to appease them. The lavender...

Trial by Fire Mica from Nurture

Thanks for this thread. I have been having trouble with red and brown in my soap. My reds turn orange and I never know what I am going to get with brown. Does anyone else have trouble with brown?
