    Fragrance Oil Ingredients

Thanks, @DeeAnna. Those are helpful links. It has been hard to find something that smells like my aftershaves.

    Fragrance Oil Ingredients

Be sides EOs and aroma chemicals, what else goes into a fragrance oil making it suitable for soaping? Part of this quest is because I have yet to find a Bay Rum FO that actually smells like the Bay Rum aftershaves I've used. The FOs that I've found are overly floral and don't remind me of bay...

Shaving soap for a straight razor

Congrats on the shaving soap. The lather looks great. I made my first shaving soap about a month ago. Happy shaves!

Oregon Trails West Indies Bay - What to mix it with?

Does this FO bloom once it is soaped? I haven't soaped with it but I had planned on using it in a shaving soap recipe. Sniffing it in the bottle and on cotton balls doesn't seem promising. It doesn't smell bad but it doesn't register as Bay Rum to me.

Oregon Trails West Indies Bay - What to mix it with?

So I bought some Oregon Trails West Indies Bay hoping to make a bay rum with it. It doesn't seem to register as the bay rums that I have smelled. I'm not exactly sure what I can mix it with. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

    First CP Soap

I did run it through Soapmakingfriend. I guess I mistook the Milk Fat as Milk and being part of the oils. It is supposed to have a 5% superfat. So maybe it will equal out? It was setup to use a 33% lye concentration.

    First CP Soap

My wife and I made our first CP soap yesterday. It originally was going to be the Soaping101 Dollar Store soap to try it out on the cheap. I went to our local dollar store and I could only find some of the tools and no ingredients. I looked up and down the aisles. So this soap ended up with...

My First Shave Soap (and first soap overall)

Thank you for your kind words. I've tested it a couple of times since I made it. But I'm really trying to let it cure more. The scent isn't exactly what I was hoping for but I think that is because my blend was off. It doesn't smell bad though.

    Reading Ingredients

So after a little digging, I think the bar soap mentioned in my post is an M&P Argan oil soap from Crafter's Choice -- only scent and colorants added. The shampoo bar may be an M&P shampoo bar from Rustic Escentuals with Yucca Root powder and ACV powder added. Plus, scent and any coloring...

    Hello from Virginia

Thanks for the warm welcome. There is definitely a lot to take in with soap making. It is more complex than I ever thought it would be. Something I know I've taken for granted for a while.

My First Shave Soap (and first soap overall)

I finally made my first shaving soap that is based on an MdC (Martin de Candre) clone recipe. I have read through the entire thread by Songwind that is on this. That has a lot of useful information and many variations of the recipe. I've read through the Badger and Blade (a site I frequent) that...

    Hello from Virginia

I'm one of the new guys hoping to make some shaving soaps, bath soaps, and shampoo bars. At this time, I don't have any plans to sell. Mostly I want to learn the process(es) and hopefully be able to make something my family can use. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

    Reading Ingredients

This is good information. I had Google searched the ingredients and I also searched for recipes. The two didn't seem to go together. It makes sense that the bars would be MP now based on the link and the INCI/FDA ingredient listings. I've only gone through one the shampoo bars and it lasts...

    Reading Ingredients

Thanks, Kiwimoose. I definitely plan to start simple and work my way up. I appreciate the recipe. I've been trying to compare these ingredients to other soap recipes and I can't seem to find anything like it. So I was curious about them. I guess I look at these soaps as a main goal to kind of...

    Reading Ingredients

Hello friends, I've been lurking on here for a few weeks. I'm hoping to make my first soap soon but I'd like some help in reading some ingredients from one of my favorite makers. I'm not trying to dupe these soaps per se but I am trying to figure out what makes them work for me. As I've gotten...
