Hot process, refined vs unrefined, optimal temperature, lye resistance

I knew about this, but remember reading somewhere on this forum that even if you add the SF oils at the end to the fully cooked HP soap you still didn't have full control over which oils remained as the SF... Guess my memory is playing tricks on me. @Dawni ?

    Liquid HP methods

Hi! May I ask why you stopped using soldium lactate? Thanks

Hot process, refined vs unrefined, optimal temperature, lye resistance

Although, people someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you [edit: fully] control which oil(s) will remain as the superfat anymore with HP than you do with CP [edit: even if you all the SF oils to the soap after the HP cook is done]?

Using IRFA percentages for fragrance oil

Question: how is it possible for a class 5A (ex: body lotion) IFRA max % to be greater than that of a class 9 (soap)? According to this quality and regulatory information sheet https://www.newdirectionsaromatics.com/msds/QR_NeroliFragrantOil.pdf the max usage rate for the NDA Neroli...

What is this on my lotion bars? (Kind of freaking out!)

Hi! Thanks, I didn't mean to gloat, though. 😅 I enjoy doing them, although their production is not cost effective in terms of how long they take to make.

What is this on my lotion bars? (Kind of freaking out!)

Thanks. As those are already made, I'll just reassure people this isn't microbial growth and the bars are still fine to use. They are a little less pretty, but I'm hoping that the warming up of the molds and other small changes I've made to my procedure will have solved (or at least lessened...

What is this on my lotion bars? (Kind of freaking out!)

Hi, That's OK. I was asking in case you knew. I'll do my own research. Thanks Thanks for your reply. My recipe is non greasy enough as is (IMO and according to people who have used my bars), but I'll keep arrowroot in mind just in case. I couldn't just remelt my bars, as their design in...

What is this on my lotion bars? (Kind of freaking out!)

What do you mean by "over a low heat" and "I turn off the heat"? You are not using some kind of "double boiler" to melt your ingredients? As I said, once the water has been brought to boiling point I turn down the heat to the lowest setting. Even if I turned the heat off the water would remain...

What is this on my lotion bars? (Kind of freaking out!)

They were stored for less than 2 weeks... Any recommendations on how to store them? You say "unless they are stored differently". I don't remember grapeseed doing this. What do you mean by "incompatible"?

What is this on my lotion bars? (Kind of freaking out!)

So I shouldn't put the bars in the freezer to let them cool more slowly? Will that help?

What is this on my lotion bars? (Kind of freaking out!)

Hi! I've been making lotion bars for a while using this recipe: 31% white beeswax 21% cocoa butter 13% mango butter 35% grapeseed oil Because I was looking for an oil with longer shelf life than grapeseed but with similar qualities, I recently switched to apricot kernels seed oil. Also, I...

    Lip Balm need advice !

Hi DeeAnna, after reading your I thought you might be able to help me. New directions aromatics is selling "Clementine essential oil" but the data sheet says it was cold pressed from "Citrus nobilis" peels...

    Mandarin essential Oil

Did you mean "steam distilled"? I'm trying to find the safe usage rate of mandarin EO in lotions bars (hands and body). The manufacturing process was steam distillation. The EO calc gives no safe usage rate for the bergamot FCF even if it is bergaptene free. Why is that? New directions...

Using essential oils in lotion bars (flashpoint question)

I don't see where I have to go to see the usage rate in lotion for a single EO?

    Brambleberry Shipping to Canada?

Sorry, I had missed that reply (it's weird, I don't receive emails notifications from the forum anymore but I don't remember changing any settings). That's correct, I've called the border information line and they told me that for short trips you can do the PCR (they don't accept the rapid...

Using essential oils in lotion bars (flashpoint question)

Is it possible to add essential oils with low flashpoint to lotion bars? I have done it in the past and remember my bars with sweet orange EO had a nice orangey smell (for a while at least, maybe it didn't last as long as the FOs) even if the flashpoint of this EO (46 Celcius) is lower than the...

    Can cold-process soap have base?

And let's not forget arsenic (As) and mercury (Hg) which are both deadly and elements of the periodic table... It doesn't get more natural than this! 😂 As a pharmacist, I've had to debunk this myth of "natural products are safer than chemical drugs" time and time again. Lab created drugs...

    Brambleberry international shipping (WTH?)

No, Canada is not intercontinental. (Unless I misunderstood your statement.) I just spoke with Brambleberry about the fees and how I would prefer to pay duties/taxes "the usual way" instead of upfront like this, and apparently there is no way around this. Basically, BrambleBerry is taking...

    Brambleberry international shipping (WTH?)

But... I just ordered from Nurture which is also in the USA and only had to pay customs and taxes (like 28 CAD?) when I did my own custom brokerage (which I do to avoid private carriers brokerage fees). This is RIDICULOUS. I wish we had more information about crossing the land border starting...
