    Ricing and clumping

i always have trouble with the pearberry fo i use. the site even says it may cause white streaks. but i am a glutton for punishment and have learned to just hurry when using it. brut from oregon trails is another one that gives me trouble, even with no water discount and room temp oils...

    Goat Milk soap

i have a really fine mesh strainer that i pour my lye liquid thru into my soap pot when i make milk soaps just to make sure. although if you stirred it well it shouldn't have any undissolved lye. and as long as you didn't have an orange colored liquid you didn't burn the milk and their...

    kitchen cabinet spices

i think you'd have to infuse one of your oils and then strain out the spice to not have any flecks ( unless of course you want them ) tumeric is suppose to give you a yellow as well as carrot juice ( sunny yellow ) or the insides of some beta carotene capsules. tomato paste or paprika...

    Please help, layered soap problem

i have read where others have done cp soap layers over the course of a couple of days. i have not. i pour the first layer and then make the next one up and usually by that time the first one is solid enough to gently pour the next layer. ( pour as low to the soap as you can and pouring over...

    the look of handmade

i didn't take it personally either. that's what makes us a great group we all have different ideas, styles and opinions. how boring it would be if we all were the same.

low ph blends are not suitable for cp soap, so say the instruction sheets i have. as the colorants will not stand up to the lye.

    peak candle company

i've used their apple jack n peel and fruit slices both made great soap without any problems. the apple jack n peel discolored to a tannish but that's normal for aj'n'p the fruit slices base soap stayed white and behaved well enough to do a 4 color swirl.

    Frustrated as heck!

yellow: beta carotene capsules, slightly messy to squeeze out but works great for a nice sunny yellow ( or carrot juice for your lye water if you want the whole batch yellow) blue: try an ultramarine it will make a blue soap ( unless your fragrance oil is quite yellow and then you might end...

    the look of handmade

i have a tank for slicing my soaps from purchased log molds. because i choose to texture the tops, some of my soaps even with the tank are not all the same weight. we swirl so that makes them impossible to duplicate and sometimes we change the color because it makes it sell better. perfect...

Your favourite thing about the Soapmaker program?

inventory feature, while it takes abit of work getting supplies all counted and or weighed and entered and as long as you keep it up come tax time a couple of clicks and you have current inventory totals for your tax man. i have used this since it came out years ago. the new features make it...

    the look of handmade

my ditty: because our soaps are handmade in small batches and are hand cut the weights may vary slightly but are at least the weight stated, we also cannot duplicate exact color/look from batch to batch making each one unique.

    Easy mold ideas

those wooden drawer units from ikea are nice for soap molds. ( they do not come assembled by the way, lol ) the 9 drawer unit: each drawer holds 32/34 oz. of oils depending on how full you fill and are super easy to line. i turn them upside down and use the indention on the bottom for...

    Pureed Cucumber

i use the whole thing, puree it and i freeze mine in ice cube trays. when frozen i weigh out what i need for the liquid amount, and mix it with the lye and stir it well till all the cubes melt. since it is so cold it keeps the cucumber from burning. that nice green pea soup color will fade...

    Honey as an additive

i use about a tsp ppo. i don't gel so i don't see a color difference. although i will say darker honey does seem to make a slightly darker soap then lighter colored honey. i have an omh soap here that i used really dark honey in and it is much darker then the last log where i used a...
