Shaving Soap - Want to Make It?

I found a few general editing errors. In the first part there is what I think is just a typo. It confused me, but when I figured out what I thought you meant and did the math myself I figured it out. In the below paragraph you say 100 grams of KOH. I think you meant the 211.11 grams. When...

    Pressure cooking

I have the WMF perfect plus pressure cooker (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000060NSZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I really debated a stove top type or the electric/slow cooker combination type. I finally decided on the stove top since it had just one or two pluses - you...

What soapy thing have you done today?

WooHoo! Feeling good. It's been about 5 days since my appendectomy and **** it, I felt like making soap! Made 100% CO, 100% coconut milk soap with 80% fine sea salts. Used BB's Ocean Rain FO. It definitely accelerated an already fast moving recipe and I was gloping the soap into the molds...

    Pressure cooking

I finally got to use my brand new pressure cooker. Started off with a simple beef stew. It was awesome, fast and easy to use. I can't wait to try more recipes in it! Anyone got any good pressure cooker recipes?

What soapy thing have you done today?

hehehe. Me too. Been awhile and getting back into soaping. I was going to make salt soap with 100% coconut milk. Got the milk in the freezer, the salt bought and measured out. Then appendicitis struck. Now I'm just chilling as i recover and longingly looking at my soap mold. I thought I'd...

    vanilla from BB

Like newbie said it's personal preference. My hubby prefers straight up vanilla. I particularly like the vanilla select from BB. I recently used a similar (supposedly, I think they even had the same name) vanilla from WSP and was not happy with the results. I live 20 minutes from WSP though...

    Coconut Oil Laundry Soap

I make a 100% coconut oil soap with 0% superfat for laundry soap, then the next day grate it and mix it with borax, washing soda, baking soda, and oxyclean (or equivalent brand) to make my own homemade laundry soap. There are lots of recipes out there for the ratios of the soap to the other...

If you're not bleeding, you're not trying hard enough!

I have the BB 9 bar mold with the silicone lining. I used freezer paper under the silicone so it'd come out easy, but the soap itself was stuck to the silicone liner. I don't know how many batches I've made in that mold but I've never had this problem before. The soap is actually pretty hard...

If you're not bleeding, you're not trying hard enough!

Who knew it would be so hard to get my soap out of my slab mold? I've never had it stick like this before! To get the sides off I ended up accidentally ripping chunks out of the soap. I was able to press the chunks back in and hope they stay put. Not sure where or how I cut my finger but I...

How to figure how much oil for mold.

It's magic! Seriously, just go with it. It works. I'm no math person either but I've successfully used this formula for many different mold shapes. Maybe someone else will chime in with a more technical answer.

HELP!! I have mystery oil I want to make soap out of.

If it happens again in the future try rebatching the batch instead of pouring the oils off. It can save the batch though you may loose any pretty colors. Ultimately you need to find out why its happening, like Obsidian said.

First Whipped Soap: Success & Failure

Last week I tried my hand at whipped soap. I had success in that A) It's soap (non zappy & hard) and B) it floats. The failure came on the creative side of the equation. Since the soap was supposed to be for my girl children and a few friends that also have girl children, I wanted to color...

    soap scent on skin

I'm going to try my hand at solid perfume. From what I've researched its 50% beeswax, 50% jojoba or some other carrier oil and fragrance. Seems simple enough. Overall I'm with you. My family just visited for the holidays and smelling all of their over scented B&B stuff was giving me a headache!

Properties of oils or of acid fats ?

The different properties depend on different elements of the oil. I'm on my phone holding a baby but I'm pretty sure if you click on an oil it'll list its profile on the side showing values like lauric and stearic and such (again on my phone and don't have this all memorized). Changing these...

    A question on superfatting PROCESS

What Obsidian said. Might I recommend using a higher super fat for safety? The general rule of thumb seems to be 5% for soaps used on your person (can be less for other applications). I prefer 7% but ultimately you need to do some trial and error to find what percent you like best.

Is a Loaf Soap Cutter Worth it?

I'm only a hobbiest but I've been thinking about it also. In the long run, due to money, I think I'm just going to get the Soap Making Resources log mold and cutter. It's only $40 for the size I want but comes with the guide as part of the mold and a cutter. Since I only make soap once a...
