    My soap

Thanks for the feedback! That's really helpful. It was mostly because I needed my olive oil for cooking the rest of the month  I wasn't quite sure what numbers I was going for in the soap calc thing either, so I'll be sure to keep those ones in mind. In looking at the 'goal' vs mine...

    My soap

I made soap yesterday! One Ace in town carried lye (shipping just kills, I was holdin' out til I found lye locally) The recipe I used was this: Castor Oil 2 oz Coconut Oil 30 oz Olive Oil 8 oz Lye 6.2 oz (superfat of 10%) Water 12 fluid ounces Orange EO .5 ounces Jasmine EO .5...

    Brand lye?

Thanks! I know this is old, but I wanted to say thanks anyway. No lye in Montana. They have a big meth program here, and antihistamines and lye are apparently heavily regulated  I did see our health food store has emu oil, though :p Didn't buy it, but good to know it's there...

Ooo, that will give me a good excuse to buy a mold when I'm buying my lye... to combine shipping and all, ya know?

    Brand lye?

You can sell commercial supplies on Etsy :) And lye is absolutely a supply! You just have to put your first tag as Supplies, then Commercial Cara

    Packaging soaps to store/give

Yeah, I had read that about the plastic, I thought that maybe it could breathe more in a box? I guess I'll just have to mess around with different things. Thanks Going to go edit my first post so it's not running off the page..

    Packaging soaps to store/give

Does anyone use boxes to store their soaps in? If my batch turns out, I'd also like to mail them to a few family members :) Is a box a good solution? I was thinking something like this? soap box It's obviously made for soap, just wondering if it actually works well. Thanks :) Cara

    Brand lye?

I was trying to read the back of the packages at Home Depot, and didn't find a drain opener that said it was 100% lye. It said it contained lye... but no other info. Does anyone know if Zep 10 minute drain opener is okay? Any good brand names? Thanks, Cara

    Low cost soap?

I've been plugging percentages into the two calculators I've seen posted on here, and I'm coming up with a really low cleansing and sudsing number for my 'low cost soaps' The oils I was wanting to work with were coconut, olive, castor, and maybe palm if I can find it as 'shortening', and...

    Low cost soap?

I have an empty Pringles can on my desk :) For the PVC, couldn't you just use a cap on the end? I think I was overly fixated on square bars, but round seems to be the way to go until I can get a mold. Thanks!

    Low cost soap?

Someone mentioned in my 'intro thread' that there are quite a few recipes that use low cost ingredients. I'd love to learn more about these! A friend just gave me soap and the recipe that goes along with it, I found it to be a little drying but I'm not sure how to fix that. Here's the...
