Has anyone tried the African Soap nuggets from Columbus Oil?

When I tried this I shredded it and added it to my regular soap recipe. I think at 25% or thereabouts. I liked how it turned out. I think it is too soft to use by itself. Good luck!!

    Coconut milk instead of GM

Just a word of caution - FWIW - I think people here are still looking for a good coconut FO. I have 2 that were supposed to be great and neither one smells like coconut in the finished soap. Great in the bottle - but they go to a plasticy scent when soaped. Just thought I'd mention that - I...

    SO upset!

Tell us what you did and maybe someone here can trouble shoot it for you. There must be a reason .... Too bad. :(

    Egg soap?

Several people have made it - I used one egg yolk, cleaned, per 1# oil. I don't see any difference, so maybe more is needed. Like, 2 or 3?? Maybe someone else will chime in. It's supposed to give a silky feel to the soap. And I think maybe as a shampoo bar ingredient.

    Cocoa Butter vs. Shea Butter?

Yes - just run it through a lye calc. It makes a slightly harder bar than shea - and works great!! Sub 1:1.

    Snowdrift Farms is closing

I used to order from them a lot. Another supplier has to close up shop. That's too bad. Is it the economy or not enough sales?? I wonder .....

Recommended stick blender watts and rpm

200 watts is just fine. That's what mine are and I don't have problems with air bubbles. Depends on your soap recipe and your technique. You want a heavy duty one if you are going to be using it for long periods of time (high olive oil for example), or cheap ones that you don't mind replacing.

    Deer Tallow?

I made one with bear fat and used the lard SAP. Worked out fine. There is a smell when you're making the soap, but not afterwards. I didn't use any more scent than I normally do. I now have a small amount of deer tallow - as soon as we go cut and wrap!! I'll be canning it for future use.

    Essential Oils vs Fragrance Oils

Is their orange EO a good one?? The eBay store. TIA ~

    Beeswax

Right now I use a wire whisk for quick excelerators and not the SB, but I have a small jar of lecithin here to try with lilac next time just to see if it works!

    how many bars/pound?

From a 16 oz recipe of oils I get exactly 5 bars when cut. It depends on how much of a water discount you're planning on doing (or if) as to just how many bars you're going to get.

All Natural organically dervied " Pigmants/Paints"

Thanks for that link, soapbuddy! I remember that site from years ago - but did not have it bookmarked on this computer. :) But it's wrong on St. John's Wort - we have a lot of it up here. It's a fantastic red when steeped in oil, but it goes to ugh brown when the lye hits it. Don't know if it...

Two Batches and Two Poor, Though Different, Results

I personally get confused by the percentages, but I am comfortable with the idea of using from .5 - 1 oz PPO depending on the scent strength and whether it's an EO or FO. I seldom go to the full 1 oz. however. ~hth

Stick Blender Watts for CP Soap-Making

Mine have low and high, and I use the low almost exclusively.

    Egg Yolk and Charcoal

Here is my 1# batch of egg yolk and charcoal soap! I used anise and peppermint EOs. I've only played with an end slice but I'm not noticing any difference. Maybe we need to put in more than 1 yolk PPO?? Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Stick Blender Watts for CP Soap-Making

Either one. I think mine are 200 watt. You only need more power if you are making large batches, and then a fancy long shaft SS one is in order! Get too much power and you could wind up with air bubbles in your soap!!

herbal infusions for both colors and scents - recent results

Carrot juice should work - or do what I did recently, and put well blended carrot right into the soap!! I used 4 oz. to a 3# batch. I think you could use a bit more if you wanted.

How to Build a Soap Recipe!

That brings back memories, of when I thought 1 oz. of almond made a difference in my 3# soap recipe!! Since then I've moved on. Or back to basics I guess you'd say. :D
