soap to help dark patches on dark skin??

Corners of her mouth? If so it could be a common fungal infection exacerbated by moisture and stress. Myconozal (sp?) and similar meds are used to treat it. If it's a cosmetic and not medical issue she would probably see great improvement from a chemical exfoliant (glycolic, salicylic acids...

    Hair Serum Advice

Ah, I didn't catch that. I was thinking availability. In this case I would go for just the light oils and leave out the glycerin completely. Op could make a hair cream/lotion with water, glycerin, oil, preservative, etc. But then it's getting complex and the purpose of the product is getting...

    Hair Serum Advice

Aroma Zone carries Dimethicone, I believe they're in France? Your glycerin will separate out of your oils, and defeats the purpose of a hair serum. A serum is designed to seal the cuticle and make hair smooth. Glycerin draws moisture to the hair and creates frizz in curly/wavy hair types. Go...

    Question About Dimethicone

I've used it in both phases, no difference in the process or end product.

    Lumpy Lotion

Stearic acid can be temperamental. It sounds like your stearic wasn't quite melted enough and/or you combined with a phase too cold. Melt your stearic all the way then melt it some more. That should help with future batches.

    Mostly shea lotion....

Did you make this yet? I'm curious to hear your results. Check out LotionPro 165 from Lotioncrafter for your emulsifier. It's a complete system (glyceral stearate and peg 100 stearate) so will be easier to work with than the HLB system and yield a much thinner product than e-wax or BTMS. I...

    Sugar crystals for lip balms

Oh, I was thinking of regular sugar. Be careful with bigger crystals as the lips are very, very delicate and super-prone to sun damage. I use a very fine grain sugar in my lip scrub and don't scrub very often.

    Sugar crystals for lip balms

There is a nice recipe for a whipped lip scrub on the MMS blog. I have tried it and it is wonderful. I only make tiny batches and don't dip my finger back into the jar after it has touched my lips. This is a very do-able project. Good luck!

    Working with beeswax

These are all great suggestions. I've done the freeze and smash, and the melt into smaller pieces. Now I just buy the pellets from my local bee store. Whatever you do don't try to grate it in the food processor! I ruined two food processors this way. It worked for a few minutes...

    revamping lip balm recipe ?

I'm not huge on castor oil in anything. The highest I will go in a lip balm is 10%. I find it drying and greasy at the same time!

    amount of Germall liquid

Usage rate for Liquid Germall Plus is 0.5%, not 5%. 3 x .005 = 0.015 oz. I'm not sure how to convert that to grams as I am hopelessly American in my measurements!

    sweating lip gloss

Were the balms still warm when you capped them? I cool mine in the refrigerator for an hour and let them sit uncapped for a few hours more to make sure they are as cool as they can get. I have gotten sweating from capping warm balms.

What can I add to my body butter to make it not so greasy?

Isopropyl myristrate. Reduces greasiness and aids absorption. I use IPM and cyclomethicone in mine and love it!

Question about shampoo and water content

The solid shampoo is very concentrated so you are only using a little bit. It is emulsifying with the water from your shower to create a liquid shampoo from the solid bar. With a liquid shampoo your water/surfactant ratio will determine the mildness and viscosity of the product. I second...

    Hair Conditioner Recipe

What do you mean by natural? Technically it only qualifies as a "conditioner" if it contains a cationic quaternary compound which adsorbs to hair (i.e. behentrimonium methosulfate, behentrimonium chloride, etc). You can do a moisturizing treatment with just coconut or other oils, but those...

    jars and body butter

Your packaging should be sterile direct from the manufacturer. By introducing water you are actually introducing bacteria into the sterile environment. If the jars are dirty, dusty, or opened you might want to sanitize. Otherwise do not introduce any water-based cleaner to the environment.

best way to dissolve Xanthan Gum?

I first solubilize it in a bit of glycerin and then whisk that into my water phase. This has helped me avoid clumps. HTH!

    Confused...

Are you trying to make a water-based cream or an anhydrous balm? At what amount did you use e-wax, as I don't see it in your formula? At 50% Aloe/Water you are getting very close to a water-in-oil emulsion, which will not hold together well with e-wax. If it is a cream you are trying to make...
