Just made two batches of HP for first time!

I bought some micas that morph in CP. When I use them after the cook in HP, they are still vibrant.

Using a mold with divider and bars not coming easily

Im only guessing, but since its an 18 bar mold, you're probably using 72 ounces of oil. Since you don't know your superfat %, I'd guess you used the standard 5%. By changing out 2 ounces of oils, you could have changed your superfat to only 2%, which would be a really drying soap. (I'd only...

Using whisky or other spirits in CP soap

If I were going to do it, I think I'd boil the whiskey a little to get the alcohol out. I'm pretty sure you won't get much whiskey scent into the soap. You'd have better luck if you could find a whiskey scented fragrance oil.

    mica's from TKB

Soap safe is not the same as soap stable. It only means that its safe to use in soap applications. Soap stable means it will hold its color in high ph. I made the same mistake. I know the difference now.

    Here's my 3rd CP batch

I opened this post and thought, "those are gorgeous" and then read that you wanted to throw them away. They might not be how you expected them to turn out, but they are stand alone beautiful. Look at them with new eyes.

    Not sure what happened

I hope Im understanding this correctly. You say the castille called for 9.26 oz lye. You used 9.26 oz of lye solution, since its a 50/50 solution, you only used 4.63 oz of lye. Probably the same problem for the other soap too.

    so tired of............

I have one of the hobby cutters. Its wonderful, unless my loaf is too long. I built myself a cutter for my longer molds, and with spacing of 1 1/4 inches.

Has anyone tried this method for making milk soap?

I add my milk to the oils. I don't get a butter, its all liquid. Then I add a 50:50 lye:water solution. I've never had separation, or discoloration.

Why do some sites and books say you MUST use lye?

The lye is not toxic, but it is caustic, which means it can burn or corrode living tissue. (So just don't drink it) You need to take precautions to not burn yourself (wear gloves, goggles) but I wouldn't say it was hazardous to your health.
