    You're addicted to CP when...

When you use a stick blender for soup (not soap) and it just doesn't feel right!

How many batches have you made this year?

37 so far this year, 4 lb. batches. In 2011 I made around 125 batches. That's a lot of soap.

Which bottle is better for premixed colorants?

I thought about having DH come up with something a little bit longer and sticking it on the end of a dremel tool to stick in there to remix after the colors have been sitting for awhile. I just need to catch him when he's home to do it.

Which bottle is better for premixed colorants?

My frother will fit through the top of the 4 oz. bottles, but's it's too short to reach the bottom. Someone needs to contact the makers and tell them soaper's are ready and willing to buy some that are a little longer any time they're ready to make them.

Which bottle is better for premixed colorants?

I used a 4 oz. bottle (like the one on the right) with a Yorker tops. Each bottle holds around 5 oz. of premixed colorant (1 oz. color + 4 oz. glycerin).

    Grainy separated soap nightmare

I made a batch of soap a couple of weeks ago that had a lot of hard oils, it was chilly like it has been in the mornings here (yes, even in New Orleans). I ended up popping the oils (they had started to harden up again by the time the lye/water had cooled down) in the microwave and brought them...

    Grabbed an old soap and...

I made a batch of salt bars when I first started making soap. I wasn't thrilled with them and stuck them in the back of the closet. 3 years later I gave one to my sister to use and she liked it. I still have one 4 years later, it bubbles like crazy. I'm not really a big fan of salt bars to...

    The Great Coconut Oil Fiasco!!

Been there, done that, but it was melted lard and palm kernel oil. All down the counter, all over the new laminate floor in the new soap house. I keep a bag of kitty litter in the closet now, just in case it happens again. What a mess to clean up. I was smelling pig for a few days.

How do you store pre-mixed colorant?

I actually have 2 stainless steel nuts (from the hardware store) in each bottle. It does help mix it up, but if you don't use them for awhile they do tend to all settle to the bottom. I'm still looking for that longer frother!

How do you store pre-mixed colorant?

I use 4 oz. HDPE bullet bottles with Yorker tops. The only problem I have is the mica/color settles to the bottom and the frother is too short to reach. I wish they'd make one a couple of inches longer, soapers would buy them up. I shake them up and sometime mix back up with a skewer. BTW, I...

    Dead Sea Salt Facial Bar

I do my salt bar recipe and use Dead Sea Mud and sea salt and pour into the little brownie bite silicone mold that makes little squares. I use these for my face every night.

    Question about taxes and COGS

I keep a notebook on my counter in the soap house that I record any soap or product that I give away for promotions or gifts. I do two reports for the year; one for the promotional/giveaways that has the batch #, date, to who and how much it cost. And the second is for inventory adjustments...

    Straining infused oils

Someone on another forum said they use paint sieves, made with paper. It's a cone with a sieve on the bottom of it. I bought 3 for around a dollar. I have some calendula infusing in olive oil that I need to strain, I'll probably try it out this week.

    Butter storage

I keep my Shea butter in a quart ziplock-16 oz./ bag. I usually keep 2 lbs. out at a time. My cocoa and mango I keep broken into pieces in a gallon ziplock bags. I keep all my butter in the bottom drawers of my fridge (soap house). I order these from Soaper's Choice and break it down into...

    Another Pine Tar ?

I bought this kind from amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000P7K46S/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 It's not as thick as the one above (which I used for 2 batches before). It also cleans up with soap and water. I made a batch with it a couple of weeks ago, it had a pretty strong pine tar scent...

    Whipping cream?

I love the way milks make the soaps creamy lather, but cow's milk give soaps a sour milk scent. I'd probably stick to goat's, soy or anything other than cow's milk. You can try it, but maybe soap cool.

    Coconut FO fleeting??

I did a bar earlier this year with a blend of Exotic Coconut from WSP and Tropical Vacation from Moonworks Collection. It still smells really strong. I used Caribbean Coconut from WSP years ago, it did fade, but you can still catch a whiff of it when it hits the water.
