    Liquid Colorants are changing colour!

No no no! :D The only part of the soap that has color in it is bottom 1/4 inch of the mold. The rest of the soap I'm pouring clear, so that you can see the embed. That's why I thought it so odd that they were changing color. There really isn't that much color in it at all. I guess no...

    Liquid Colorants are changing colour!

The embeds are actually mini erasers! And the FO was bubblegum. I think maybe I'll try doing one with a mica colorant and see what it does. Otherwise, it could be the FO, but the ones I made last week with a different soap base still seem to be fine.... so I'm think it may be my NDA soaps.

    Liquid Colorants are changing colour!

Yes, the embeds were already in the soap when I noticed this. Usually about 10 drops to 14oz of soap.

Bargain Shopping for base in bulk

I use the NDA m+p soap bases. They seem to work fine for me, except they have a higher melting point than the one other brand I've tried. I buy them because they have a warehouse in Canada. I can't afford the shipping from brambleberry :( Any other ideas of where to buy afforable m+p in...

    Liquid Colorants are changing colour!

Hi all! So, I made some adorable embed soaps (actually the ones from one of the Soap Queen tutorials). And they look fabulous when I first make them. But, about 1-2 weeks after the color turns darker. So the pink ones I made turned more into a dark red, and the blue ones I made turn into a...

    Distilled water?

I found distilled water sold in 4L jugs in the grocery store, so no worries there :) Thanks for the help!

    Green Tea Powder

Hey all! I picked up some Green Tea Powder to use in my lotions. And so far I've tried twice (both at 1%) of the lotion to get it to work. It won't. It doesn't seem to want to emulsify when I add the powder. I tried it once adding it directly to the water phase and then mixing my oils in...

    CP soap troubleshooting?! Help!

Oh wow. That recipe is from a book, it never even occurred to me to double check the calculations. Lesson learned I guess >,< Assuming the the pH for the soap (once I test it) is ok, could I reuse this to make a M+P soap? I could add some beeswax to add hardness, right? Thanks again :)

    CP soap troubleshooting?! Help!

Update: I went out and bought a stick blender the next day. My soap was still really soft and mushy and had oil sitting on the top of it, so I blended it back together and I am fairly certain it traced! When I went to unmold it the other day, it is still really soft and it was cracks were...

    CP soap troubleshooting?! Help!

Thanks for all the replies. So clearly it was my stirring :D I hadn't bought a stick blender as the stainless steel ones are kinda expensive, but I guess I'll see if I can't pick one up on sale somewhere. Thanks guys!

    CP soap troubleshooting?! Help!

Hey all! So, I made (or, rather, tried) to make CP soap today for the first time. And it didn't work. I followed the directions and am 98% certain that I measured everything perfectly. I'm not sure if it would be the temperature, the ingredients I used or what.... The recipe: 6 ounces...

    Separated Lotion?

:D Yep! I bought some polawax and some stearic acid as well, and so far the lotions I've made have turned out wonderfully! Thanks for the help :)

    Separated Lotion?

Hey! Thanks for the response. The recipe is one of the ones that uses borax, and from what I've read those never seem to work well- which might explain why it didn't work :) I've actually ordered some polawax- so I can try again with that next time. The recipe I used was: 1/2 cup mint...

    Separated Lotion?

Hey! So, I just made my first two lotions (yay), and I don't think they worked at all (boo). They are both still cooling, so perhaps they are salvageable, which I'll have to see about. They are both recipes from Natural Beauty at Home by Janice Cox- the Mint Body Lotion and the Almond...

    Distilled water?

Hey all! This may seem like a silly question- but the majority of lotion recipes I've seen call for distilled water (or mint or rose water- which isn't distilled I assume?). My question is: is distilled water completely necessary? Obviously, I won't be using tap water, but would bottled...

    Hi from Toronto!

Hey all! I just started this whole soap/lotion making thing recently- but so far, I've been having a blast! My first M&P soaps look pretty fantastic (if I do say so myself), although they seem to be slightly sticky- which may have more to do with my ingredients... This seems like an...
