    Curing In a Toaster!

I will be thinking hard about new places to cure. By the way, what’s DOS?

    Curing In a Toaster!

Greetings fellow soap makers! It’s a beautiful morning here in the west Texas countryside. I was up early pondering some soap making strategy for my newfound hobby. As of late, I’ve been curing my soap in my garage, which has not been an issue with our mild winters here. However, spring...

    From Poop to Proud

I used the green tea infusion for the water. It was fine until I added the lye, that’s when it turned dark brown.

    From Poop to Proud

I made a green tea/lemongrass soap for my second attempt at cold process. It turned out to be dark brown and I was just crushed. I couldn’t figure out how it got to be so dark and disgusting looking. I poured it anyway and this morning I checked on it. The soap has turned into a light tan...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I mixed lavender and Spearmint with a 1:1 ratio and it was very pleasant to me.

    Weighing Issues

Thank you so much! I’m not sure where I’m messing up but I’ll figure it out eventually. You’ve been a great help though!

    Weighing Issues

That makes sense now. I think with more homework and experimentation, I might get a handle on this. This is my first cold process recipe. We’ll see what happens!

    Weighing Issues

I did try it with water on my scale. And 8 oz of water weighs 8oz on the scale. However, it’s taking 14 oz of olive oil to weigh in at 12 oz. Can it be the type (extra virgin) of oil?

    Weighing Issues

Thank you so much for your reply. I have a brand new digital scale. I placed the measuring container on it then hit tare. I filled it to the 12 oz mark but it weighed out at 9 something on the scale. Does this sound right?

    Weighing Issues

Ok...this is probably the most dumb question but here goes. So 12 oz of olive oil does not weigh 12 oz? If a recipe calls for 12 oz of olive oil, then it needs the oil in weight and not fluid oz? I may need to go back to grammar school because I’m confused.

    Mean Mica

I discovered the essential oil I was using was a bright yellow. I think this why my batter turned peach when I added the pink mica. Thanks for your replies though.

    Hello - Newbie from Canada

Hi Trish! I’m new to the soap making community myself. I’m Carrie from Texas. Right now I’m experimenting with melt and pour soap bases and love it! I can’t wait to get this mastered then I’ll try cold process. Nice to meet you!

    Mean Mica

Can anyone tell me why my rose mica powder turned my soap orange?

    Newbie Lessons Learned!

I am a virgin soap maker and am still gathering up my supplies. I have a question maybe you can answer for me. I just bought a very nice double boiler. Once I’ve made soap (melt and pour) in it, can I use it for other things? I really appreciate your help on this.
