    Vegan soap conundrum

Hi all. Chiming in with my two cents. I make primarily vegan soap. The standard definition of vegan in a nutritional sense is the non-consumption of animal or animal derivative products - this includes all dairy & honey as they are derivatives. Most people would refer to this diet as...

Cold Process Soap & Soapstone Counters

Soapstone Installed! The soapstone is installed (and I love it). I have to say, after reading more and then remember, like you mentioned, that it was used in chemistry classes my fear went down quite a bit. Our new sink is also super deep which means when I was even our tall pasta pot it...

Cold Process Soap & Soapstone Counters

I wasn't sure what other area of the forum to put this, so bear with me. Our new counters, black soapstone, are getting installed today. This includes an under mount sink. I keep having stress dreams about what might happen with lye / hot soap (like when washing after making a batch) if it...

    Curing Issue?

Hahaha I do that with cooking all the time!

    Curing Issue?

Really?! It looks like an obvious fluke to me! It was a test of a slightly changed recipe. So I was going to sell as is at a lower price as a test batch, but I feel like I'd rather try to fix it. Interesting that some people like it though! Hmm... Here's an up close shot.

    Curing Issue?

Interesting! That could be it. I'm likely going to re-batch it this fall. There's no harm with it the way it is (we've used it in the shower already), but I would prefer it to look a little different and I think the re-batched look would work for this.

    Curing Issue?

Yes, it looks like those! The weird lighter color in a rather circular pattern vs. the fully gelled darker color around. No colorant in the batch. I'm guessing the dark pinkish color was because of the fragrance reaction.

    Curing Issue?

So, hopefully this is the right forum to ask this on. Years ago I made a Lemon Poppy Seed cake soap that was a huge hit and people loved. It contained palm kernel oil however, which I discontinued from my line pretty early. It's been years since I made this soap. Since it was requested I gave it...

    Green Barn Soaps in Maine!

Hi everyone! I'm near Brunswick. I'm getting excited for fall (the best in Maine, in my opinion). We are just about to finish putting our renovated kitchen back together which will include an old fashion wood cook stove. I'm excited to have lots of room to soap on my modern stove, but to also...

Gift Box Source Frustration: Narrow, Shallow box needed

I found just what I was looking for with EcoEnclose but am waiting to hear back. The shipping prices as astronomical. ($70.00 in cart, $60.00 for shipping). They seem to have exactly what I want and it fits in with my sustainability values. The shipping though is way high for a small business in...

Gift Box Source Frustration: Narrow, Shallow box needed

Thank you! Custom Kraft Boxes or the template maker might be the ticket!

Gift Box Source Frustration: Narrow, Shallow box needed

Thanks. I've talked with someone about custom muslin bags too, since I used to use them for single bars before I switched to cigar bands only. I'm thinking at this point that's the direction I'm going to have to go in. These things are so hard to track down.

How do you make teas for soap?

I make a tea how I make any tea I would drink, just in a stronger and larger quantity. Then I cool it down in the fridge. I've also placed it in the freezer to really chill it down before adding lye. Normally I do a mix of water/ice with my soaps, but I don't want to water down the tea so...

    Infusing water with herbs?

Personal preference perhaps, but I like using fresh to infuse. It's how I make water to drink in the summer, so I figure I might as well use the same process for other infusions. The compounds/oils in the herbs seems to diffuse more readily into the water with fresh.

Gift Box Source Frustration: Narrow, Shallow box needed

Okay. I've Googled all around on multiple occasions lately and my frustration levels are driving me to post. I want to offer three soaps in a package. Ideally I would like the soaps to be side by side in a narrow, shallow long box. Something like 12"x4"x2". The jewelry boxes for necklaces look...
