    Tetrasodium EDTA separated....

Thanks! That is good to know. I used reverse osmosis water, not distilled...wonder if that would make a difference?

    Tetrasodium EDTA separated....

Smart! It is disappointing to have to wait for ingredients for sure when you get the "soaping urge". I have made a few batches anyhow, while I wait for mine....now to see how they turn out! I think I "undercooked" my castille soap, cut the next batch a little early, leaving smears on the cut...

    Best Chelator/anti DOS ingredients

Thank you for the info. I cannot find any place in Canada that sells ROE...it is different than Rosemary essential oil, right?

    Best Chelator/anti DOS ingredients

Hi! I am just wondering what everyone prefers to use as additives to prevent DOS, as well as to use in "hard water areas" for better lather and less soap scum? I know that EDTA is commonly used, but are there other choices that you use and prefer? Thanks for any help! :)

    Tetrasodium EDTA separated....

Hi, I made several batches of soap about 1 1/2 years ago, and have not touched my supplies since then. I have just started to make soap again, and noticed that my EDTA that I had mixed with water has settled and tiny bits and white flakes rise from the bottom when I shake it. I thought perhaps I...

Tallow/canola oil mixed shortening -Sunspun brand

Hi, Thanks for your response. How does the soapmakingfriend calculator let you know that the Sunspun blend is 85%/15%? Or, is it just a guess regarding the proportions? I put in a query to the manufacturer of the shortening (Bunge), but I have had no response.

Does EDTA make a soap feel less harsh?

Thanks! I will keep some and try them out in a month or so (as well as sooner, as I am very curious and impatient)

Does EDTA make a soap feel less harsh?

Thanks. I will keep a couple, and in fact will try some out too...I am curious as to how they will affect my skin. I think it was sky blue mica that made the blue, as well as titanium dioxide. I did chop and shred some of them and will include the pic! I am happy with my confetti soap...first...

Does EDTA make a soap feel less harsh?

Sounds great! I am mourning the loss of it already though, as it looked so darned nice....

What soapy thing have you done today?

Hey...I am new at making soap as well...just wondering what it could do to the drains. I have always washed the fresh batter remains down the drain up until now.

Does EDTA make a soap feel less harsh?

Thank you. Just wondering, if you (accidently) made a harsher soap like this -what would you do with it? Rebatch it, or get rid of it? Or, use it anyway? lol...new to soap making and having a hard time to decide!

Does EDTA make a soap feel less harsh?

Thank you. I used the 5% super fat, and my ingredients ended up being 57% beef tallow, only 3% canola oil, almost 6% castor oil, and 33% coconut oil. Nice and hard for the detailed molds I used, but sadly much less conditioning than I would have wanted.

Does EDTA make a soap feel less harsh?

I have made soap with a hardness level of 60, cleansing #27, conditioning only 35, bubbly 32, creamy 38, INS 179. I added EDTA for the first time ever, and although I only made it a few days ago, it does not feel very harsh to me. (I usually feel the need to use hand cream shortly after washing...
