    Goats Milk Question

Oops I didn't even look at the video before I posted...it suggested the same thing I just did  only with a more concentrated lye/water solution. Sorry!

    Goats Milk Question

If you didn't want to make an all goatsmilk batch, you can dissolve the lye in water and add cold condensed goatsmilk after adding the lye water to the oils or at very early trace. My go to recipe calls for 14 oz of total liquid and I dissolve the lye in 8 oz of water and then add 6 oz of cold...

    Fragrance oil burners

I do enjoy candles, but especially love my oil burners. Does anyone know why certain fragrance oils put out hardly any scent while others have a great throw??? Is is related to flashpoint of the fragrance oil? What is really weird is that I have made candles with a fo that has an excellent...

    More hot process questions

Totally agree about adding beeswax. Made a world of difference in the hardness of my hp soaps.

What are your fav Fall/Xmas Scents?

My fave fall scent is Apple Jack n Peel. I like both WSP and Natures's Garden but the WSP is more expensive.

    Horrible Goat's Milk Soap Accident

I'm sorry everything went so bad. I have made lots of goatsmilk soap with fresh, frozen, and evaporated goatsmilk but prefer the evaporated. Love that it is shelf stable so I can make it whenever the mood hits. To avoid burning the goatsmilk, I mix my lye with water and add the cold condensed...

    Why use Borax in soapmaking?

Hey all! Thanks for the responses. I was asking about using Borax in bar soap. I found some info about using it in liquid soap by doing a search of the CP forum (mostly about Borax and neutrality in liquid soap) but couldn't find out much about the effect in bar soap. I have never tried to...

    Why use Borax in soapmaking?

I found a hot process soap recipe online and it calls for 1 TBS of Borax to be stirred into the water before adding lye. Does anyone know what Borax would add to the soap? I made the soap with the Borax and it turned out really nice with very fluid pour. Just wondered about the Borax-it seems...

    Agave Nectar

Hey SueSoap, does the Agave add the same properties (boosting bubbliness) if added to HP soap after cook. I was asking because I do both CP and HP but mainly CP. It would be great to be able to add Agave after HP cook and reduce the chances of the soap overheating and discoloring. :D

    Agave Nectar

Has anyone ever used agave nectar in soap? I have used honey many times (and liked the results) and wondered if agave might provide similar qualities without causing overheating or excessive browning. I have a friend that loves agave and I thought it might make a unique gift to create a soap...

    Question about FO from Brambleberry

Does Brambleberry offer any Phtalate Free fragrance oils? I cannot seem to find any information about that on the website and am thinking that they may not. Thanks!

have you made both HP and CP soap?

I make both HP and CP soap and prefer CP. I started making HP after a batch of my CP turned up with a lye pocket. Concerned about the risk of lye making its way into a bar of finished CP soap I started to HP (cook to neutrality and have no danger of active lye in the finished soap). There...

Single best piece of advice for a newbies soaper?

Be careful not to let raw soap go down your drains when you are cleaning up after making a batch of soap. I used to wipe everything down with paper towels and then wash the equipment in the sink. After a few months, the tiny bit of raw soap left on the equipment (after wiping nearly all off...

    Does anyone actually soap lilac?

Maybe you can Hot Process the batch instead of CP? Adding the fo after cook means no seizing, ricing, and you can use a lot less fragrance oil too.

    CandleScience.com having a sample sale!!!

I have soaped Cool Citrus Basil, Amber and Oakmoss, and Beach Linen with excellent results. All three were cold process, but I think they would work just fine in hot process too. If using in hp, pay attention to the flashpoints of the fo. Wait until the soap cools down below the flashpoint...

    WSP fragrance oil must-haves?

There are so many that I like from WSP, but my must haves are: Rainforest EO/FO blend (make sure it is the blend because they have a straight FO that is way different) Bergamot Grapefruit EO/FO blend Coconut Lime Verbena Midnight Pomegranate Sexy Little Things

    Camden-grey? Yikes

I really like Camden Grey and have never had a problem with them. Their fragrance oils are reasonably priced and shipping is pretty fast. Their fo does come in plastic bottles if that makes a difference to you. Some of my favorite Camden Grey fragrance oils are their Oatmeal Milk and Honey...

    Opinions please: CP vs HP

I have only ever made cp soap but am considering learning how to make hot process. Last weekend I had 2 failed cp batches-one with lye pockets and one covered in lye crystals (later found out my scale is on the fritz) but it got me thinking about giving hp soaping a try. I like the idea of...
