    Recipe check please!

I agree with everything @KiwiMoose said above. Additionally, may I suggest that you make smaller batches when first starting out (enough for 2 - 4 bars); total of about 8 - 16 oz. batter weight. It helps to keep from going through a lot of raw materials until you're happy with your base recipe...

    Beeswax in Soap

I use honey in most of my soaps. You can add 1-3 teaspoons per pound of oil. I generally stick to the low end, unless I have HONEY in the name of the soap. It does turn the batter reddish, but that dissipates with time. I have tried adding it various ways and have found this to be my favorite -...

    Orange Swirl Hot Process Soap

Looks lovely, no one would know the brown coloring was not intentional.

It's happened here now - OO prices up ^

Thanks for the tip. Last time I went to Walmart, they didn't have the 3L bottle, will have to keep checking.

It's happened here now - OO prices up ^

I bought some olive oil this month and it was $US 11.54 per liter ($16.16USD for 1.4 litre). I wonder what's driving up the price. I can get HO Sunflower for a better price, so think I will start working with that.

Using Fresh Mountain Snow Melt for CP Soap

This site says it better than I can - https://www.ultimateguidetosoap.com/post/distilled-water-in-soap-making-is-it-really-necessary-and-does-it-have-any-benefits "Contaminants found in undistilled water can cause complications and unwanted reactions in our soap. These include accelerated...

URGENT!! Missed adding citric acid before lye

If you add it to the oils, it will probably not dissolve and be grainy. I think I would try adding it to the lye solution or leave it out altogether. The only danger with leaving it completely out is that you will have a heavier lye concentration, which may or may not work for your design...

    Chunky lye and milk solution

Your full recipe and pictures of the soap will be helpful in order to troubleshoot. Are the cubes of goat's milk totally dissolved or are the chunks the frozen goat milk? I believe you're saying that the goat milk fats are turning into soap as you add the master batch lye to it. I currently...

Karma (Lush Type) FO - Patchouli haters read this.

Your own fragrance blend sounds wonderful. I might bite the bullet and try it. (I don't hate patchouli, per se, just ODed on the scent in college. Many times, one would walk down the dorm hall and all you could smell was patchouli incense burning.)

Has anyone tried Nurture's Kismet/Karma Dupe FO? Also ISO a good Pine FO/EO.

I use the BB Fir Needle EO. It does have a tiny bit of a camphorous note, but not strong like cedarwood or lavender. My Winter Holiday blend is loved by many and is 50% Fir Needle, 25% 10X Orange, and 25% Clove EOs. Not what you're aiming for here, but in case you purchase it and don't like it...

    Fragrance Sales

My observation is that there are always fragrances on sale, either because of the seasonal nature of many scents or they are over stocked. In this way they make room in their warehouses for other fragrances. Rarely do I see all of a supplier's fragrances on sale and then it's usually just 10%...

As far as a pine scent, I think Fir Needle EO is a good substitute.

Help with labels for multiple scents...

I do the same - use Online Labels. Design them and print at home. The beauty of these is that you do not have to print a solid page of one label. You can print each label individually. Like most computer programs you can copy and paste, so that you would only need to change the fragrance on each...

March 2024 SMF Challenge - Stone Soaps!

Brambleberry has some plastic cloud molds on sale that might work for odd shaped rocks; not sure about using them for CP if you want to gel. https://www.brambleberry.com/on-sale/clearance/molds/cloud-clamshell-mold/V001509.html?cgid=3-mold_clear_special#start=1

    Adding additional liquids.

The way I like to handle beer is to start out with the amount needed for the total amount of liquid, then reduce it when simmering to the liquid needed to add to the MB lye. So for example if the recipe calls for 2.6 oz of water and 10.4 oz MB lye. I weigh 7.8 oz (2.6 + 5.2) of beer, then...

    Lye in MP purpose?

Hi, I started out with MP. Most of those ingredients are what is in any Melt and Pour Soap Base, less the particular fragrance(s). So when the soap base is made, lye is used to create the soap. I doubt they add any extra lye. Here is an example of a MP base from Brambleberry: Coconut Oil, Palm...
