    4 Stores Today_Craziness

I'm not a fan of ramen as it is meant to be served, but I do use it quite often for stir-fry. I re-hydrate the noodles without the seasoning package and strain the liquid. Then I put a little oil in a frying pan and lightly fry up whatever meat and or vegetables I have on hand (usually leftovers...

Scents that go well with raspberry?

I mixed BRV with a lemon FO for a raspberry lemonade soap that smells lovely.

    Hobby Lobby today....

I'm not quite sure if a crochet emergency will qualify as "essential" travel in case of a lockdown, so I decided to make a quick stop at Hobby Lobby while I was out shopping today for a little extra yarn. I was shocked. Amazed. Stunned even. Row upon row of fully stocked shelves. Aisle after...

    4 Stores Today_Craziness

I'm in California, where 6 counties have gone into lockdown. Mine has not (yet). I'm the kind of shopper who sticks up on things when they are on sale, so I am fortunate to have enough already to feed my loved ones for a few weeks, so I'm not concerned. My mother, whom I live with, has a...

    Aloe Vera

I add the aloe to the melted oils and stick blend. When I add the aloe after the lye, or at trace, the batter thickens up very quickly, but when I blend it in before the lye, it does not seem to thicken up as fast, which gives me time to do some swirls.

    Aloe Vera

Keep in mind that I am a new soaper - I've only made about 15 batches of soap so far, all using different recipes, so my experiences with aloe may or may not constitute "good" advice. (Sidenote: one of the reasons I started making soap was because aloe plant were taking over my yard and I didn't...

    Should I trash my oops?

Awesome! Thank you so much! I was muddling my way thru a dozen windows open to different smf posts, which all had snippets of what this one link had all summed up in one clear, easy to understand aticle!I Than you cmzaha, for providing the link, and DeeAnna for the fabulous information...

    Should I trash my oops?

Thank you TheGecko, cmzaha, and, DeeAnna for the replies. I am going to stop worrying about it, and set it to cure. TheGecko, I have read your very sage advice on marking the containers before. I actually took it a step further, and have different colored containers for different ingredients...

    Should I trash my oops?

Thank you, DeeAnna, for the reply. It was a total of 169.5g of NaOH, instead of the 139.5g, so an extra 30g. I was supposed to use 279g of the 1:1 lye solution, but used 60 g too much. 279+60=339÷2=169.5g Given that I used 169g of lye, and not 280, and that I also had an additional liquid...

My first shaving soap is a success!

After finally making it thru this entire thread, I decided to give it a go and whip up some shaving soaps a few weeks ago. Overall, I have to say they turned out pretty good! My son, who shaves with a straight blade and uses a shaving brush, and his gf, who uses disposables and gathered the...

    Should I trash my oops?

My scale tends to shut down really quickly, so on my notes, I usually write down the amount of lye solution I need plus the weight of the container I use to mix it (60g). Last night, I mistakenly counted the container twice, ending up with an extra 30g each of lye and water. Even accounting for...

Shaving soap-all's well that ends well (I hope!)

I'm waiting on my first few soaps to cure before I make any more, but I really want to soap now. Lol. So, last night, after finally reaching the end of Songwind's thread, I decided to try my hand at shaving soap. I planned on 3 small batches - the original recipe, the second with Shea & cocoa...
