Awesome soaps! I got some benzoin and have been meaning to use it in soap and lip balm. I'm inspired! We SOOO need e-smell! It would be so great to be able to smell that soap! Zing, I think the same thing! All those tidy YouTube counters...and then there is mine...:)

    Happy Accident!

Wow! Beautiful save! They would be lovely if they were intentional, too! Thanks for sharing! :D

    Please help me understand

For an easy view of the water ranges and superfat ranges for a soap recipe, Majestic Mountain Sage's lye calculator (The Sage) is great. I mainly use SoapCal for the cool graph that shows the hardness, cleansing, etc. of the recipe. Most of the time the two calculators match. Once in while, if...

Cleaning up after first successful attempt at soapmaking

Hello and ditto to what everyone has said so far. Since rapeseed (canola) oil is the only oil used, and it is liquid at room temperature (RT), that is going to make a very soft bar, and will probably take a long time to firm up. I have found that if I use over 20% canola in my soap...

    What happened to this soap??

This has happened to me before, too. I think my problem was that I didn't emulsify the soap quite enough before adding color and fragrances. And, I should've left it in the mold for a couple days more (it was quite a fluid recipe). And then I should've covered the unmolded soap with plastic wrap...

    Kudos to PaperMart

Wow! Sounds like you are/were close enough to drive there! The closest soaping/packaging/etc. supplier to me is Majestic Mountain Sage and they are an hour and half drive north of me. If only I had a teleporter! :D

New and Wondering about these Retailers?

Obisidan's right on the money! The Sage (Majestic Mountain Sage) is pricy, but their quality is great--fragrance oils, base oils, etc. are all awesome. And you currently get a $2 coupon for each review you write on their website. They also reply quickly to questions, and their soaping...

    Kudos to PaperMart

I just have give a shout out to PaperMart. I bought packaging and some very cute clear glass hexagonal jars recently. They sent me everything I ordered quickly and in great shape. They also sent me a whole extra case of little (1.5 oz) hexagonal jars that I hadn't ordered. When I contacted them...

    Rendered tallow from wild animals?

Hi All! I'm a bit late to this discussion, but does anyone know what the saponification value of elk fat/tallow is? I'm guessing it will be very similar to deer tallow. One of my neighbors has a herd of elk. (I had no idea that randy male elk calls can sound like poorly oiled freight trains...

New to the group but not to soaping :)

Hi Gretchen! Welcome! I'm Eleanor T. I'm new-ish (as far as commenting ;)) to the forum, too, and I've been soaping for a long while, too--almost as long as you have. I have been amazed at the collective knowledge of the Soap Forum!

    Long term storage for soap

Hi All! I'm new to the forum--though not to soap making. :) For my trial soaps (testing FOs/EOs for discoloration, scent longevity, etc.) that I store for a year or more, I put them in the equivalent of pizza boxes. That way I can write their identifying info by each bar and store the boxes...
