    Castile Soap Debacle

Issues with Castile/Bastle I’m in the same boat that Jennee is when it comes to making Bastile and for the same reasons, Using Castor Oil for the bubbly and suds properties and a little Coconut oil just to harden it up a touch. I still have the long curing issues which I wish there was a way...

    Irish Salt Soap

Thanks for all the tips members. Well, I think I'll try the salt bars as mentioned in one of my last threads. I think I'll go with the 50% of oil weight on the salt first time. I'm using my wooden slab molds that I made which are lined with mylar. I'm still going to use a little mineral oil...

    Irish Salt Soap

Well, I think I’m going to give the CO salt bars ago. I’m sort of leaning toward Carolyn’s 90 CO, 10 Castor (cuz I like the bubbly)... and a 17% superfat and 40% of oil weight on the salt. I will use coconut milk if I can find it in the milk case otherwise I’ll use the canned milk. Will I mix...

    Irish Salt Soap

Cocount bars or CO salt bars? I have a lot of Coconut Oil left over from soaping this last month and have read good things about making CO soap. I didn’t intend to go 100% on the CO but maybe 85%, and then go 10% PO, and go 5% with castor to help the bubbly… Another supplement with this recipe...

    How much Oatmeal to use..

I made some oatmeal soap a couple of years ago that my wife really liked and can’t remember how much oatmeal I used. I remember grinding regular oat meal (not the instant stuff) up in my magic bullet and mixed it with my oils before adding my lye water. The oils were olive oil heavy, 70%...

    A fabulous mold liner..

Thanks for your input Sweet Bubble...Great to hear that the liners and pvc work so well...Next time I'm soaping, I'm definitely going to try this out and forget about the pringle cans. Especially since I don't have any and really don't need to Pringles and then worry about the extra...

    A fabulous mold liner..

Well, like I said, I have used the Pringle cans but never thought to use parchment paper or plastic shelf paper. I’ve decided to try the PVC pipe and use the parchment paper for the liners. I am also going to check out those clear tubes that are used to cover fluorescent bulbs that Prairie has...

    A fabulous mold liner..

I just watched a video on making Castile soap. The lady used a length of 3” PVC pipe which was lined with a material that she said she got at Costco. It came in a roll and was some type of plastic/vinyl material, not parchment or freezer paper. She slipped a piece of this into the PVC pipe...

    Cool Water

I really like your swirls...they are a little different than the norm...not saying that the norm aren't nice. I especially like your presentations...I don't know if you sell your soaps but your display of your bars seem worthy of that if your at that level....nice job....:)

    Tallow Questions

Tallow questions... I have made a lot of soap using lard...(suet)...You can buy this at any super market and its cheap. This stuff works drop dead easy in making soap..and the bars come out snow white if your not going to color you soap. Rendering your own tallow, suet or any animal fat is an...

Hi! I'm new here! Need some advice

I think one of the most important things to remember and this isn't just for the beginning soap maker is to keep a container of vinegar near by when making soap just in case you have an accident with the lye or splash lye water on your work area. Its a great neutralizer.... not recommended
