    First Calf of '08

My favorite cow was the first to have her calf this year. These are Dexters, a small breed. The mother is 40" tall and 600# while the little bull calf is 18" tall and about 43#. These little calves are too much fun!

Hey Neil (and all who love the great outdoors), Pics!

Neil, you have brightened my days by sharing so many beautiful pics of yours, I thought I'd add a few more of mine from around our area. Itchy buck taken through the living room window. Mt Antero on the left, Mt Princeton on the right. Our place is just out of sight behind the hill in...

    No Time for Soap

I have been so busy with income taxes (we have 3 businesses plus personal), snow (trying to keep our driveway open has been challenging this year and it's been snowing again all day), taking care of my animals in this weather, etc., that I have not had any time to make soap. I miss it!! And...

    Exfoliating Question

Do you think labeling a soap as "Exfoliating" is going into the realm of cosmetic labeling? If so, what are other good terms? I use "scrub" for my gardeners hand soap, so would prefer not to use that term for a bath soap.

    Kefir Soap

I had to take a break from income taxes (blech) and make soap. I really wanted to try my new k. butter from the co-op. Also, I used kefir made from my goat milk (instead of fresh gm) for all of the liquid. This is a salt bar made in my great TOG mold. It has sea kelp granules and is scented...

    Winter Pics

I've been playing with my camera quite a bit lately (someday I'll figure out what all the buttons on it do!). Anyway, thought I'd share a few. This is Mt. Princeton (14197'), taken from our front porch. Our dining, living, kitchen and master bedroom windows look out on this peak. This is...

    The Soap Critic

I just had to share this pic with you. This is my Official Soap Supervisor and Critic, Perro. I was trying to take some soap pics and the little ham was in the middle of everything, so I thought "Why not?", and here's the pic. Perro has been with us nearly two years. We found him at the...

    It's Still Snowing

This has been the best winter we've had in years, at least 10 years. Thought you might get a kick out of these pics from last Sunday. This is our little mountain place. This is my darling husband, who is 6'2" This is me on my snowmobile, looking puffy under 4 layers of clothes :)...

    Snow!!!!!

I thought I'd share a few pics of our mountain hideaway. We have 30 acres about 20 miles from home and we go up there most weekends, year round. Access is by 4wheel drive or ATV in the summer and snowmobile in the winter. There is a short while each spring and fall when we cannot get one type...

    Coconut Soap (Attn Paul)

HI. The recipe Paul had on another thread for 100% coconut has been bothering me for a while. Just seemed too simple and easy. So, being snowed in yesterday (18" and still snowing this morning) I decided to give it a try. I made a small 1# batch. But, I just couldn't seem to leave it so...

    Another Label Question

HI all, here I am again to bother you with yet another label question. :? I'm am doing my first mp for a quick turn around. I have customers ready for more soap and they aren't impressed with the "4 more weeks on the curing rack" response they get from me. How do you label your mp's vs...

    Advice On Shea/Aloe Please

Hi. Just got my first tub of Shea/Aloe butter from WSP. Had planned to add an oil and EO and whip it. BUT, it feels so nice as it is, very smooth and creamy, not greasy on the skin, just the consistency I like. Has anyone used it without adding an oil? Also wondering if I can blend in an EO...

    Bath Salt Color Tests

Hi. I've been wanting to color my bath salts with all natural plant materials (my customers don't want any food coloring or other artificials). Here's what I've come up with. These were all ground very fine and just a couple drops of distilled water added. Each sample here is about 2 Tbslp...

    Baking Soda in Bath Salts

Hi. Do you put baking soda in your bath salts? Why or why not? What are the benefits of it? Thanks!!

    Peppermint Sticks

Hi! I wanted to share a couple pics of my "Peppermint Sticks" Lotion Bars for Feet. They went to a new local farmer's co-op and will debut Saturday. I'm hoping they do well. They are .75oz and in homemade plastic lined cardstock push-up tubes (the first few were a major pain, but now I've...

    Help Me Figure Out Labels

Hi. Trying to figure the FDA label requirements on soap. I know it's exempt from the cosmetic labeling, but have some questions. Can I list my ingredients by common names, like avocado oil instead of Persea gratissima? I know I can't say it heals without throwing it into drug labeling...

    Finished Whipped Shea

Hi. What is the consistency of your finished whipped shea? Is like whip cream, or more dense like butter? Mine feels just like butter, softer than a lotion bar. Should it be fluffier? I use 75% shea and 25% sweet almond with just a few drops of EOs. Whip in an ice water bath until it...

Hi, I'm new to this forum, it looks great. I've been making soaps and such for personal use/gifts for a long time, but have just been invited to add them to a new year farmer's market. Thought I should learn more, and was thrilled to find this forum. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions...
