    Hello from Colorado!

I'm in Colorado, Chaffee county. Where are you? I raise goats and make goat's milk soaps. Spent an hour this morning filming a herd of about 30 cow elk and calves in the pasture. No better place to live!!! Welomce!

Batch #41 soap, Patasium Hydroxide made from ash

Great job, Neil. Couple questions: were the ashes from hard or soft wood? Did you use a raw egg for the test? Gorgeous shot of the wood duck. We don't have them here, but I sure wish we did.

    Batch #40 Name?

Gorgeous soap, Neil. I'll second Tab's idea for the name. Oranges and sunshine just go together. Fishing off your deck today?

How wrong can they get it?

I'm Debbie and I get called Betty quite a bit, mostly on the phone. Pretty hard for them to mess up the last name, Davis.

    First Calf of '08

My favorite cow was the first to have her calf this year. These are Dexters, a small breed. The mother is 40" tall and 600# while the little bull calf is 18" tall and about 43#. These little calves are too much fun!

wild stuff we used to eat when we were kids

Thanks, Neil. I get very busy this time of year so just don't have much computer time lately. Had the first calf of the year born Sunday, which was a very cold, snowy day. But they are doing fine. It always amazes me the stuff we ate and things we did as kids and survived just fine. We...

wild stuff we used to eat when we were kids

Apples, tart cherries, dandelions, lambs quarters, pine sap for gum, gooseberries, currants, asparagus, raspberries, tiny wild strawberries, rhubarb, stuff out of the garden, sweet feed out of the barn, and salt off the salt blocks in the pastures. Neil, I'm sad to hear that what you remember...

    Poll: Toilet paper comes off..

Boy, I'm away from the board for a while and come back to find this poll!! I don't care as long as I have the paper. Especially at our mountain place, where the nearest "bathroom" is a batch of willows. Just wad up some paper in your pocket and start hiking!

my deer gave me a present!

Great little baskets, Woodi. Love the aprons, too. I have several that were my grandmothers and I love them. The icy hand is very cool (ok, bad pun, but it is cool!!).

castor oil research, Palma Christi - the hand of Christ.

Thanks for the link, Neil. Another example of how the good Lord provides us with all we need, we don't need all the artificial and chemical stuff that most products have in them.

    No Time for Soap

Thanks, Neil. Yes, the goats' milk is piling up, but not too much, because it tastes so good! I finally got our corp taxes done! That's the hard one. Now the others won't be so bad. You're right, I need to just make the time. We have snowmobile plans this weekend, I'm delivering a...

    No Time for Soap

I have been so busy with income taxes (we have 3 businesses plus personal), snow (trying to keep our driveway open has been challenging this year and it's been snowing again all day), taking care of my animals in this weather, etc., that I have not had any time to make soap. I miss it!! And...

    Batch #30 First whipped soap!

Very nice, Neil. I haven't tried whipped soap yet. I have visions of raw soap/lye flying all over the kitchen. Your reports about the ph are making me want to give it a go. Beautiful shot of the aster, too.
